Just read an article in today's Sacramento Bee (with color photo of Capatain Morgan's beach) that says the morning after the premiere, the phones went crazy for the reservations manager at Captain Morgan's. Interestingly, they say most vacationers are honeymooners.
It also says that Captain Morgans has started $10 boat tours to let Temptation fans staying elsewhere on the island tour the hotel! Too much. They say the series looks like it will be a boon for Belize tourism. Don't know if that is good or bad.

This will be the biggest event in the history of Ambergris Caye, aka Temptation Island.

Food for thought? Will GOB use this burst of tourism interest to create permanent economic development by making needed infrastructure improvements, or just watch from the sidelines?

Not for nuthin', but I think this show does AC no justice. I mean, why are they rubbing out the faces and names of people and places not under contract with the show??? It kinda pisses me off. Besides, its the people that really make the difference (at least for us), and theres really no interaction with the people of the island. Hiya Tammy. We'll see ya soon (5 wks, I think) -Brett and Susie

yo Rubba, I hear you, but it's not Discovery or Travel Channel. They have their own agenda and we have ours. Don't get pissed off about it, as much as we'd all like to. I think in the long run it will put in more than it takes away. If people go to AC and meet the people, the San Pedranos will sell themselves, as always.
Two things to notice...After The Storm with all it's hype and big names, what has it done for Ambergris Caye?...and, TI was shot in Sept. and if it never did air, it still pumped a ton of $$$US into the local economy in the off-season. So my take is, San Pedro in general is ahead of the game.
Get upset for whatever reason, but TI will more than put back whatever Keith took away from the economy.
Just never forget Buddy and Kay Smith.

Remember when Any Warhol said that everyone gets 15 minutes of fame or something like that? People are very, very fickle when it comes to celebrities and celebrity 'places'. I think it's great that people are hearing about Belize but I wouldn't count on them retaining that info very long.

Re: Episode #2

hey Shake...The gov't can't control airfare like, say, Mexico can.
An analogy: try to fly from Santa Fe, NM to Birmingham, AL. Very expensive, right? Two small markets. Cancun & Cozumel are relatively cheap because of the larger volume. Larger volume=lower price (there was this Sam Walton guy). That is a fact that Belize will not be able to change any time soon. Heard of AeroMexico and Mexicana?
When you see the Belize equivilant, then the gov't might have some control.
Susan, I kinda agree w/ what Andy said, but I don't agree that this is the same. It took a traveling public a while to find out where Maui was, now it has long-ago overtaken Honolulu as an "in" destination. But, they had to get on the map first. Once you're on the map, I don't think your 15 minutes are up. Did people quit going to Cancun after it got on the map? No, you get the exposure from whatever means (and this is cheap advertising), then deliver on the expectation of the traveling public. BTW, I don't see many celebrities in this deal. These folks may be getting 15 minutes worth, but Ambergris Caye couldn't buy a better marketing tool (all moral opinions aside).
Rubba, they filmed this thing almost in a vaccuum. Their ratings don't depend on how many San Pedranos they interview or put on camera, but how much titillation they can cram in between commercials. Most of San Pedro pretty much wrote off this shoot. Only a few local guides got any of the business. Look at all the mainland tours they did. Next the mainland folks start whining cuz they didn't get on camera.
Take it for what it is.

Does anyone know if After the Storm is going to make the big screen? Last I heard, the movie was made "on spec", meaning they were going to try to sell it, maybe to HBO or one of the motion picture companies. It was not commissioned.
Talk about not hearing anything about Belize, I think this (After the Storm) island is supposedly off the coast of Honduras or somewhere else in the Caribbean. You'd probably have to look really fast as the credits roll to find out anything of the location of the shoot.

'Atta girl, Tammy! Thanx for backin' me up!
I didn't expect TI to be a Travel Channel special, but it almost seems that FOX went out of their way to avoid getting any local business names or local faces on the show. Am I upset that I didnt see the TI couples throwin' back Belikins at the chick drop? No. But I think the vacuum you mentioned was so extreme it becomes annoying to watch knowing what theyre leaving out.

Did I dream this? I thought the airfares were so expensive because GOB charges for landings at a ridiculous rate. Compared to Mexico, etc., the airline tax is horrible. Is that right?
