i will be staying at the mata chica in march and heard that it had suffered hurricane dammages to the kitchen and dinning areas???
have these been all repaired ?? were any of their beachfront casitas affected ? if so have they too been restored ? looking forward to the warm breezes and pristine waters...

Yes, I live here on Ambergis Caye (Temptation Island) and visit Mata Chica Resort often as it's my favorite. You can't go wrong staying there. http://www.InvestInBelize.com

Gar, be ready to reach deep. A cup of coffee there, the local blend, nothing exotic is $4US. The 10% service charge can be a surprise if you're not expecting it. Hotels have found out they can charge that 10% service charge, not give it to the staff, and not have to pay hotel tax on it. You're still expected to tip.

I had friends go there and spend a bunch on dinner and rated the food a 5 on a 1-10 scale.

bon apetit!

mossback... your comments on the mata chica are both enlightening and a first... i kanda figured things tere might be a bit pricey but all that i had heard and read was that it was well worth the $$$ more like 8-9 out of 10 on the scales...interesting!!

Gar, The people I talked to were from cosmopolitan cities and are not unaccustomed to fine dining. Perhaps they expected more than some people. I'd be interested in your comments after your trip. Hope you have good weather and have a great time.

If I'm ever fortunate enuff to have enuff money to stay at Mata Chica, I won't worry about the price of the coffee.

After all....when you've got money....it's just money.....right?

When you dont have it....it's rent and groceries, etc.....LOL

I think the atmosphere alone at Mata Chica is worth a lot. And as far as food....I've never eaten in a fancy French restaurant. I wouldnt know high class food if it sang to me...LOL

Enjoy your week of paradise!

Oh, by the way.....I know I remember seeing little coffee pots in the rooms. So if you're worried about the price of coffee....do what us girl scouts do....bring your own and cook it in the room....LOL.
