I was thrilled to read that there is a bus from Cancun to Chetumal. Where exactly is Corozal in relation to Ambergris Cay? I don't have my map with me and see Corozal pop up frequently on this message board. How did you ever get airfare for 299 from Canada????

"How did you get the great fare" is a good question! Do you pros have a particular site you watch for specials? Any tips ?

Did you make arrangements to ride the bus at the airport or did you have to go into the city somewhere? Somehow I need to find out more about bus routes south of Cancun. Any ideas?

awoods, corozal is in northern belize, the first major city you arrive at from the north. you can fly to ambrigris for about 55 bucks once you get there. the bus from can cun leaves regularly a few times a day, so you just go to the bus depot and find out the time. once you got that (the bus depot is right in town) you can check out downtown can cun if you have time or go the tourist strip if you have more time. the bus goes by all the tourist spots along the coast which is a main highway all the way to belize. you can get off any where along the way. stay as long as you want and then get back on. the 299.00 return airfare is a last minute thing. you need to be flexable to get it. eg. i phoned my travel agent last week wednesday and i could have left last week saturday if i wanted to go then. there were seats available.

Curly, Thanks for the info. That bus ride sounds great to me. What happens at the check points when you're on a bus? Also, do you know if there is a ferry out of Chetumal to the peninsula? We are considering a stop at Xcalak for a couple days, then a short boat trip to AC.

awoods, couldn't tell you about the ferry but once you get to chetumal you transfer buses. you hop the bus that goes into belize. at the border you get off the bus, the bus goes across the border empty, you walk through customs and immigration and then get back on the bus on the other side of the border and continue on your journey, no big deal.

tori, what i find amazing about travel agents is that some work for you and others don't. i have to phone out of town agents to get these great air fares. i even know some of the people that work for travel agents in my home town and they won't get me these cheap fares. i go where i get helped. also as i mentioned to awoods it helps to be flexable when wanting cheap air fare. it seems in the states you have more options, but we seem to be limited in canada. also the exchange on the dollar to US dollar kills us, so it doesn't always help us to fly out of the US.
