Thinking of staying a few days in San Ignacio before going to AC. Would really like to see Tikal. Has anyone stayed at this hotel? Any comments good or bad would be greatly appreciated. Also, can you walk to town from this property? Thanks....

It is expensive, big, has a huge pool, lots of cement. My impression was it would be great for business types. It does have an Iguana Conservation on the property that is worth seeing. You can walk into town in a few minutes from there.

places with more personality exist somewhat close to san ignacio. chaa creek, duplooys, green heaven, clarissa falls all close by and quite diverse in cost. taxi's exist as do shuttles to town...

don't miss eating at cafe sol or sanny's grill...

I agree with Cinca.

A spot at one-third the price but quite nice is Aguada. A room with A/C is US$25, and the hotel has a good little restaurant and a pool.

The San Ignacio Resort Hotel does have a good restaurant, and the bar is a pleasant place to drink a cold Belikin and catch up on your TV.

I'm told that the hotel may be getting a casino.

Actually, the hotel is a nice place to stay in town and perfect place to meet local people on Fridays at their Happy hour at the Stork Club. Yes, the same Turkish company that has the gambling at the Princess with install machines at the Hotel.

Well run, very good restaurant, friendly and helpful staff and mgmt.
