Just wondering if someone has stayed at the Pook's Hill Jungle Lodge and if you liked it.
It looks great in the brochure and website. We have reservations there for 3 nights in June.

Hi,

I just stayed at Pooks Hill last weekend, and it was excellent. Ray and Vicki are great, and the lodge is beautiful. Here is a link to some photos taken with my digital camera:

David! Thank you so much for sharing you pictures. It looks so beautiful there. Now I am glad we picked Pook's Hill. How where the cabanas inside? Did you have electricity or only romantic candles at night? How was the food? Which tours do you recommend. We wanted to do the Caves Branch 7 mile Cave Float and some other cave Vicki recommended.
Did you see lots of birds and wildlife around the lodge or on a jungle hike?

Hi again,

The rooms have electricity and ceiling fans, as well as hot water provided by burning cahoune (sp?) nuts. I wish that I had taken a photo of the inside of a cabana, but they are very nice and have a unique design.

The lodge at night is ever more beuatiful than during the day. Between the noise comign from the jungle, the stars and the kerosene lamps, it is pretty romantic. The food is excellent - Vicki is from Trinidad originally so there is a West Indian flavour to everything, but it's a mix of styles.

I'm sure that you could put a lamp or candle inside your cabana instead of having the electic light, too.

We didn't go tubing, but swimming at the Red Cliff pool was fun - there is a large circular slow-moving current that you can stay in for ages.

We saw kinkajous in the trees beside the lodge and many birds, especially hummingbirds. There are all sorts of butterflies and moths as well. You can do a night hike with Ray and his night vision goggles... I'd say that you'd see more wildlife at night.

Have a great trip!

Dave

Dave,

How were the beds at Pook's Hill? When I was there I thought the mattresses were the only weak point -- they weren't of high quality.

Lan,

Hi, well, regular Mennonite-made beds, so you're right, not the best quality. I did notice some new furniture, though, some Cayo and clam in the cabanas.

Again thank you for all the info David! By the time we get to feel the mennonite bed I am sure we will be so worn out from hiking, caving and floating that even the floor would feel okay. Great to hear that the food is interesting and excellent. It sounds like this will be a very special place to stay.
