Has anyone heard from Rick and Cheri lately? I can't wait to hear how their day went at the Holiday. Anyone know when they will be back?

Just do like I do and pack it under a box of tampons, and they wont touch them. I have a very funny story about crossing the border from Mexico into Belize I'll tell you when you get here. Anyways, the prescription isn't a narcotic, its just something I cant get there, so it should be o.k.

I don't know how security is at the airports where you are leaving from, but let me mention that EVERYTHING we owned was opened and looked through. They wear gloves and just open it up in front of everyone. People are all just standing around watching them too, out of curosity. ha ha, Just an FYI.
We had nothing to hide, but it sure made you feel foolish when they looked through all your personal items. ( I didn't have those tampon thingies with me )

my sister flew in from L.A., and forgot she had a swiss-army type corkscrew on her keychain. she was so embarrassed when they took it. she was just mortified. she had totally forgotten about it.

could you imagine? she was like, "please, just take it! really, it's okay!".

At least, we are secure.....that cork screw could'a really done some damage, she could have helped the stewardess open her wine, LOL

In all seriousness, I felt they were doing a fine job of security. This was Portland and Denver. I wonder what the security has been in customs at BZE. Anyone been searched there? I want to prepare for our next search

We had no problems going down, but on the way back, when you check in they ask you to take your luggage down to security people who open all pockets and look in everything, but didn't unpack our bags. No problems... Rick

I recently returned from SEAsia. At the airport they opened my luggage and searched through it. My face was aflame. I'd just thrown all of my dirty underwear in on top after I'd finished packing. So that, of course, was what greeted the searchers. I'll never do that again.

Is this your *checked* baggage that they are looking through? Or just carry ons.

Good Morning....Do you want to be called KC or Kathy(one of my favorite names)? Use plastic bags to pack in, silk paper or plactic between layers, tightly roll your t-shirts and shorts, if diving pack xtra shoes and any other bulky in your dive bag and try to balance the load, this will help you get more stuff in.
By the way I have friends that should have started their drive from Bend to Cozumel, they do the trip every year.
Have a good day....Rocio

KC.....they random picked us at one point and took all of our baggage and searched it, found a bag of sand from the Pacific(little bag), my shoes(clogs) with a buckle on them and a curling iron...all laying just so it looked like a bomb, I guess. The area was cleared, the cops surrounded us and they brought in the "bomb dog" what a trip! ! That darned sand was for a friend that collects sand. But anyway, it was a random pull and on the way home, one of us, lost our drivers license ID and it happened again ! ! ! fun fun. Oh for sure you may have some problems with wrinkled clothes from stuffing them back in on time to make the flight. ha ha Then again, you can be the lucky one and just go though without the full check. The lines were long too. This is in the US.

Hi! My name is Kathy. KC are my initials. My bags will not have the typical tourist items. I could pack my personal stuff in a backpack! I bring stuff down for our house on A.C. I have something called "space bags" which I put anything "soft" in, and then vacuum out the air, and it compresses it down to practically nothing (blankets, towels, etc). It's very neat. This time I am also bringing books, video tapes, CDs, tiki lights for outside... stuff like that. I'm sure it's going to look like an odd mixture to anyone going through it. That's OK. Last time I went I had "service-for-8" china in our carry-ons. You should have seen the bag checkers... they looked between every plate and in each cup. I'm sure they were wondering what the heck I was doing...

I do have one question, though. I have a fishing tackle box I'm taking down -- in checked luggage. Are they going to take my fish knife? Even though it is in checked luggage?

Your friends who drive from Bend... how long do they stay? It sounds like a delightful thing todo!

kathy, i would be concerned about the knife. heck, they took a corkscrew!

perhaps you could save some anxiety by calling the airport or airlines and ask how to transport these things. then you will know what to do. let your fingers do the walking...

But, but, but... the corkscrew was on her keychain, presumably in her carry-on purse.

I was thinking that if it is in checked bags... how would I have access to it, so it might be OK.

You are right -- I *will* call Continental and ask. However, I have done this before (called Continental) to get baggage limits, etc., and no matter what you are told by the airline over the phone, the person at the check-in can give you *much* grief, saying simply, "well, Maam, you were misinformed." Grrrrr. NO, HE was misinformed, but what can you do... can't prove what you were told over the phone (and later confirmed with another phone call).

<sigh>

KC....I bet that tackle box, if a checked bag, would make it through. They will ask you want it is, and when they asked me what was in my "checked" bag, I didn't have any idea what the "buckles"/"sand" meant to them. I was afraid to carry a safety pin on my person. So it went in the checked bag.
I forgot my "tiny tweezers" were in my purse, boy did that person look them over closely. But they passed the inspection LOL
I bet it will be OK. I know what ya mean about the airport advice. I also have done it and they are programmed to just say so much, beyond that they get themselves and me confused. Worth the try tho.

Luggage checks were very thorough in Mexico where I just returned from. Everyone around me was checked, but they waved me right through - weird. At second of three checks, they took my lighter. Let me go with my corkscrew!

I just returned from the airport, two airlines told me the same thing, dive knives and the like are ok in checked baggage, to avoid any problems, check and double check shaving kits, makeup kits, even 1st Aid kits and sewing kits in carry on bags for any sharp objects, remove and put these in checked bags.
