Hello -- I'm looking for information about buying a couple of bikes in Belize for use (and storage)when we come down for our annual vacation time in February. We'll explore on the mainland, between Cayo and Belize City, for a few days before we head to the Caye for awhile. The bikes don't have to be fancy, just something rugged that gets us around, maybe buy them on the mainland somewhere and take them with us on the water taxi. Our other option is to buy something up here and ship down. So, questions are, how easy to pick up basic beater bikes, where to do it, and the ballpark price. Any experiences?

Thanks!

They will run you about $300-400 BZ on Ambergris Caye. Castillo's Hardware has them....on Middle St. These are plain beach cruiser type bikes...which in my humble opinion...are the best thing for island riding.

I've been told they are about half that price in Belize City....so your plan to purchase there and carry over on the water taxi seems like a good plan to me.

I would think if you could get one for $150 BZ ($75 US).....it wouldn't be worth the hassle to buy in the states and bring down.

Have fun! [Linked Image]
