HELP please!

Looks like we are booking a bit late in the game. we are traveling with a 7 and a 4 year old. Both good travelers. The Jungle options that we are interested in seem booked.

Does anybody have information on Jaguar Paw and Windy Hill???

Are there other options we should be looking at? We tried DuPlooy (full) and cant get hold of Ektun.

We are told that we need to decide quickly so as not to lose the spot at Jaguar Paw.

MANY THANKS!!!!

p.s. Lan, I am trying to find a way to contact you as from messages here realize you have a book we should buy.

p.p.s.Sorry for posting first under an old topic.

We visited Jaguar Paw earlier this year. It is lovely! Beautiful, with a crystal clear cave river, towering jungle plants, a monkey, great food and service.

I would recommend Green Heaven Lodge.

Great place with great food, tours etc. It's in the area of Duplooys as well.

It even has a swimming pool (-:

Hi, trina I would suggest the Orange Walk area. There is a lot to offer there. In particular there is the Lamanai Outpost lodge that offers exactly what you're looking for. You can contact me if you need more info at djones@btl.net

Both are nice. Windy Hill is in a location about 2 hrs west of Belize City, close to the town of San Ignacio, several Mayan Ruins, River activities, Guatemala border. The accommodations are individual thatched roof cabanas spread out on a lovely hillside. Above ground pool, full restaurant/ bar, easily accessible. Jaguar Paw is located about 30 miles West of BZ City, in the jungle, right at the mouth of a huge cave network which you can tube through. Close to the zoo, Monkey River wildlife park. Accommodations are pretty deluxe for Belize, with "theme rooms" (Laura Ashley, serengeti, asian, etc.) a fancy bar/restaurant, pool. Beautiful upscale place. Both would be pretty good for kids - Windy Hill because they have large cabanas, cool birds around, Tv, mini fridges, big property. Jaguar Paw's main feature for kids is probably the swimming by the cave mouth.

Depends on what you are looking for...

Barbara has given you a good overview of the two. The thing I would emphasize is that Windy Hill is NOT a jungle lodge, if that's what you're looking for. It's right beside the road just west of San Ignacio Town. Jaguar Paw is definitely in a jungle setting. It's nice, but more expensive.

I would also look at Pook's Hill and Banana Bank, both in the general area of Jaguar Paw but less expensive. They are more in the same tier as duPlooy's and both are run by long-time Belize residents, really nice folks.

I just made my reservation at Banana Bank. They have a jaguar and monkeys on site, so you can actually "promise" your kids they will see them.
It's reputed to be very family friendly and they have some great tour packages. We opted for the Jungle Express, it has everything we were looking for.
Someone on an earlier post (try searching: kids and/or children) said that they took their 2 year old riding horses there.
Whatever you decide, you're sure to have a wonderful time!
