What is the weather like in the Placencia area in May? Is it the rainy season? Are the bugs (mossies and sand flies) any worse then?

We were in that area last late May/early June. There were a few showers, mostly at night, nothing that prevented us from doing what we wanted to do. Historically May is drier than June.
