Punta Rock Star, Andy Palacio and the Garifuna All Star Band featuring
Paul Nabor, leave
the country tomorrow enroute to Germany. They will be taking part in THE
WORLD MUSIC
EXPO. Organizer, Ivan Duran of Stone Tree Records, tells us more.
Ivan Duran: This year the band will be performing a showcase at this
expo and it's quite
an honor that the band got selected. Last year more than five hundred
bands from all
over the world presented proposals to the WOMEX jury and out of those
five hundred
bands only thirty-six got selected and Andy Palacio and the Garifuna All
Star Band was of
those bands. It is a very short performance, it is a forty-five minutes
showcase
performance at one of the stages and it's happening on Thursday at
eleven forty-five in
the evening. We are all very excited about this trip, and this
represents one the biggest
opportunities for our music to get a much wider exposure in the world
and is a concert that
is, they are going to play for media people for concert promoters in
Europe and the States
and so it is a trade fair and where music professional go and scout for
new talents and so
we are very excited about this trip.
Duran further states that Belizean music has always been well received
internationally.
Ivan Duran: We are very successful every time any our bands get on stage
they are a hit.
It is very a long process to bring to those new markets but we have been
very successful
in the past and the reactions are always very positive from the media
and also from the
concertgoers in general.
Prior to leaving the country tomorrow morning, Palacio and his group
will be meeting with
members of the media.
