We are thinking of chartering a sailboat for a week out of Placencia, with either The Moorings or TMM.

Is there a grocery store nearby where we can buy most of our food and drinks for the week? I know we can provision through the charter companies, but that is always so expensive.

We did charter out of San Pedro before and there was a great food market there, but we don't know what to expect in Placencia.

Thanks

Placencia is a MUCH more difficult place for finding provisions than San Pedro. If you are chartering out of Placencia, your best bet is to have the provisioning for you. Have fun on your sailing trip - the southern cayes are lovely.

I agree with Diane. There are now four (I think) little groceries in Placencia, but they stock mainly the basics. Wallen's is the largest, and it does have necessities like rum, beer, soft drinks, crackers, canned goods, beans and rice and bread(sometimes it runs out on holidays and other rush times) but it's very weak on fresh stuff, meats, cheeses and such. Wallen's is maybe a third or a fourth the size of Island Supermarket. Placencia gets most of its fresh fruits and vegetables from Dangriga.
