We need to get from Belize City to Chaa Creek. I have read that shuttles are available from the international airport in Belize City to San Ignacio for $25-30/person. Does anyone know whether it is necessary to book these shuttles in advance, or whether they are just waiting at the airport?

You need to arrange the transportation before hand. Chaa Creek should ask you if you need transportation. There are no shuttles waiting at the airport. They only come in when there is an arranged pickup.

If you arrange transport with Chaa Creek, it will take you all the way to the lodge. Fairly expensive, though. If you arrange it with another shuttle, such as the one run by Aguada hotel, you may either have to pay extra to be taken to Chaa Creek or get a taxi from San Ignacio (maybe US$10-$15). You do need to set it up in advance.

Rent a car! Being able to see the countryside was probably the most enjoyable thing we did. Plus San Ignacio is a cool litte town, there were lots of interesting things to see. The casino can't be missed! ML
