Heard that there was a fire yesterday at one of the resorts (maybe Jaguar Reef) in Hopkins. Does anyone have more info?

Dear Lan,

I'm afraid that the reports are very true. Apparently a fire started next
door at Hamanasi got out of control and raged down the beach, setting the
thatch roofs on several buildings on fire. I am heading down there in a few
hours time but understand that there was considerable damage done to two
cabanas, the main building, as well as our suites building.

I am assembling construction crews as we speak so will hope to have the
Lodge back in order within a 6 - 8 week period. In the mean time we are
offering guests a 110% credit should they decide to delay their trip, a 100%
refund should they cancel it a 50% discount should they decide to still come
down. All tours and facilities will run as normal, with the exception of
the restaurant which suffered heavy damage. Meals will be served next door
at our B & B property.

Thankfully it was fully insured so the economic damage will to some degree
be minimized. Thanks for your concern!

Any word on Hamanasi? Boy, they seem jinxed. First they sink their dive boat, then the dive shop burns down and now this. Hmmmm....

I heard there was no dammage to Hamanasi They were burning trash on a very windy day and it got out of hand.
I wonder where JR's Guests are??
the main building is totally gone, 2 cabanas and the top floor of the big 2 story building gone.

That is my understanding as well -- no damage to Hamanasi (except maybe any remaining good will from Jaguar Reef).

LOVE-FM reports that Jaguar Reef was "totally destroyed" but that is not the info I got from the owner -- just two duplex cabanas, the main lodge/restaurant/bar and the suites building.

FIRE DESTROYS RESORT

Jaguar Reef Lodge in Hopkins Village, Stann Creek has been destroyed by fire. Reports to Love FM News Center say the fire started around 9:30 on Saturday morning from nearby bushes between the Lodge and another resort. We've also been informed that the fire got out of control about an hour later and continued to burn until after mid-day yesterday. When we spoke to officials from the Dangriga Fire Department yesterday morning they told us that they had already been informed and that fire tenders and fire-fighters had already left for the scene of the fire.

How unfortunate, I've read nothing but good things about Jaguar Reef. Good to read that they quickly put together a contingency plan.
