Bus stations (ie Greyhound) with terminals within a certain distance of Federal bldgs. are also being closed. Many downtowns are being shut down - our bldg in downtown Dallas was closed at 11am, as were all of our field sites in 4 states, and a number of others around downtown were as well. Truly a horrifying day.
just fyi, I heard on the radio not long ago that the Red Cross is actually asking people not to go give blood today, b/c they have no way to transport it to NYC/WA DC at this time since air travel is shut down. They suggested waiting a day or two and calling ahead. So, before you go stand in line for several hours you might want to check this out. I'm otherwise speechless.
I'm in Albuquerque, NM and we just had a bomb threat at our capitol in Santa Fe. I have a good friend who lives in Brooklyn and works in Manhattan. She finally got in touch with her family, who told me she was having to walk across the Brooklyn bridge to leave Manhattan. She also had an appt. at the World Trade Center scheduled for today. My heart goes out to her mother who had to sit and watch the news for an hour before finding out if her daughter was safe. I guess that's the state of the whole country...sitting and waiting. May God be with us all.
Prime Minister Said Musa comments on the apparent Terrorist Acts committed against targets within the United States
11 September, 2001 - Belmopan Prime Minister Said Musa in a meeting this morning with the new United States Ambassador to Belize, has expressed the Belize Government’s categorical condemnation of the apparent coordinated terrorist strikes aimed at facilities within the United States.
Mr. Musa asked Ambassador Russell Freeman to convey the condolences of the Government and people of Belize to the people of the United States for the tremendous loss of human life, property and grave injury caused by the horrific actions committed against government and commercial installations in major United States Cities.
Prime Minister Musa described the acts as callous and cowardly. Such despicable behaviour, said the Prime Minister placed the lives of thousands of innocent civilians at risk.
Prime Minister Musa reaffirmed the Belizean Government’s commitment to collaborate with friendly governments, the United Nations and other multi-lateral agencies in ensuring that those responsible for committing these horrendous acts are swiftly brought to justice.
The Government of Belize continues to monitor these tragic and outrageous events and has stepped up security surveillance at the United States Embassy and diplomatic residences.

A hijacked plane from Korea was escorted by fighter jets to land at Vancouver Airport this afternoon. There never has been a time the air was so quiet here, or anywhere. My heart goes out to everyone.
My heart is heavy and broken. I can't express in words how I feel. Just sit and stare. To much to bear. I feel this may snowball...... My son reports that many of the arab or muslim students attending his high school have been accosted, insulted, hit, and degraded. Some were in tears by the end of the day..... It's all so tragic. Much like after Pearl Harbor. We must strive to remember that the melting pot of the United States is what makes it unique. I pray continually for ALL. Debbie
