You might want to check the news:

There were apparent terrorist attacks this morning around 9 a.m. on the Trade Towers in New York and on the Pentagon in Washington. The south Tower totally collapsed around 10 a.m., according to eyewitness accounts. There likely have been massive numbers of casulties.

Apparently an American Airlines flight out of Boston was highjacked and was crashed into the Towers. A second plane also hit the Towers.

Another plane may have crashed into the Pentagon in Washington. Lots of evacuations are taking place, including the White House, Pentagon, Treasury etc. Fearing additional attacks, ALL U.S. flights under the control of the FAA nationwide have been cancelled. President Bush is returning to Washington from Sarasota, Florida.

The news is calling it a "second Pearl Harbor."

Happen to live 1 hr. north of New York City and have to say no one is getting much done, we all have friends and co-workers that are in the city and cannot get through to anyone in NY or NJ.
Have been listening to the news all morning and sad to say the Twin Towers are gone. Even more sad is the amount of life lost in this senseless act of terrorism. We all thought it could never happen and it has. Let's all say a prayer for all the people involved, all around the country.

All US airports are closed today. I understand that the Canadian airports are closed too. There won't be too many tourists arriving in Belize over the next few days. I wouldn't be surprised if they are shut down for a couple of days at least. No international express mail will be coming from the US or Canada either until the airports open up, of course.

I'm absolutely horrified that this has happened. I'm trying to reach my cousins who work in Manhattan. Phones are too jammed.
Today, here at work, we have charity projects out in the community. I'm going to serve food to homeless people and count my blessings at how fortunate I am.

They are saying here that Will Rodgers Airport in Oklahoma City will be closed until 6 PM this evening. It appeares it will open to inbound flights at that time, but not outbound. I'm gathering it will be much longer for many other airports to open at all.

+++++++++

The latest I get, contrary to what I heard earlier on the radio, is all US airports including OKC and Dallas, will be closed until at least tommarow afternoon.

+++++++++

The only other thing I can think of that I can do is to give blood, as it is in short supply. They are calling for type O above all, but they will happily take others. Give if you can.

You may want to call ahead though. It is with some pride that I understand that in OKC the waiting line at the blood donation centers is 6 to 8 hours long. In my little town it's running about two hours. I go there now.

Fire services sources indicate FDNY has taken heavy casualties in the collapses, and we may have lost the best and brightest of our federal quick-response rescue teams as well.

Like us all my sympathies go first to those hurt and their loved ones. But later, when this story gets told, I think it's going to be one of outstanding heroism as well as loss.

My thoughts and prayers go out to families and God Bless the rescue workers.
We all need to donate blood. No matter where you are in the country. This is a horrible nightmare.

Here on the West coast, they have shut Capitol building down in California. This is the most tragic event in my lifetime. My prayers go out to all who were unfortunately involved.

Bus stations (ie Greyhound) with terminals within a certain distance of Federal bldgs. are also being closed. Many downtowns are being shut down - our bldg in downtown Dallas was closed at 11am, as were all of our field sites in 4 states, and a number of others around downtown were as well. Truly a horrifying day.

just fyi, I heard on the radio not long ago that the Red Cross is actually asking people not to go give blood today, b/c they have no way to transport it to NYC/WA DC at this time since air travel is shut down. They suggested waiting a day or two and calling ahead. So, before you go stand in line for several hours you might want to check this out. I'm otherwise speechless.

I'm in Albuquerque, NM and we just had a bomb threat at our capitol in Santa Fe. I have a good friend who lives in Brooklyn and works in Manhattan. She finally got in touch with her family, who told me she was having to walk across the Brooklyn bridge to leave Manhattan. She also had an appt. at the World Trade Center scheduled for today. My heart goes out to her mother who had to sit and watch the news for an hour before finding out if her daughter was safe. I guess that's the state of the whole country...sitting and waiting. May God be with us all.

Peace, Susan

Office of the Prime Minister

Prime Minister Said Musa comments on the apparent Terrorist Acts
committed against targets within the United States

11 September, 2001 - Belmopan
Prime Minister Said Musa in a meeting this morning with the new United
States Ambassador to Belize, has expressed the Belize Government’s
categorical condemnation of the apparent coordinated terrorist strikes
aimed at facilities within the United States.

Mr. Musa asked Ambassador Russell Freeman to convey the condolences of
the Government and people of Belize to the people of the United States
for the tremendous loss of human life, property and grave injury caused
by the horrific actions committed against government and commercial
installations in major United States Cities.

Prime Minister Musa described the acts as callous and cowardly. Such
despicable behaviour, said the Prime Minister placed the lives of
thousands of innocent civilians at risk.

Prime Minister Musa reaffirmed the Belizean Government’s
commitment to collaborate with friendly governments, the United Nations
and other multi-lateral agencies in ensuring that those responsible for
committing these horrendous acts are swiftly brought to justice.

The Government of Belize continues to monitor these tragic and
outrageous events and has stepped up security surveillance at the United
States Embassy and diplomatic residences.

A hijacked plane from Korea was escorted by fighter jets to land at Vancouver Airport this afternoon. There never has been a time the air was so quiet here, or anywhere. My heart goes out to everyone.

I don't think it was a hijacked plane. I believe it was a "diverted" plane. There were a few planes that were escorted here and there, for landing.

For a time, there was some suspicion that some of these planes were hijacked.

My heart is heavy and broken. I can't express in words how I feel. Just sit and stare. To much to bear. I feel this may snowball...... My son reports that many of the arab or muslim students attending his high school have been accosted, insulted, hit, and degraded. Some were in tears by the end of the day..... It's all so tragic. Much like after Pearl Harbor. We must strive to remember that the melting pot of the United States is what makes it unique. I pray continually for ALL.
