The home remedies are at the pharmacy, unfortunately. I don't know of a thing to use except drugs.

Alopurinal (sp?) to reduce the uric acid crystallization and buildup and Indocin to relieve the pain and swelling, Indocin first and Alopurinal later to maintain the lowered levels of UA.

Indocin works really well when you're having a flareup... and the alopurinol is a preventative. DO NOT take alopurinol until the flareup is over.

This is his first experience with Gout. If genes are any indication he is in for a, ahem - swollen ride. His Pop suffers often. Have heard about some not so nice reactions to the Indocin - are ya'll OK with it?

Gay - do the cherries really help? If so, does the juice work as well as the real thing?

Thank You for the help...

wink

Sounds good but the only cherries I could find in San Pedro were canned pie filling.

Indocin can be hard on the digestive tract. Generally the first dose in a flareup is worse and the irritation tends to go away. It also causes some drowsiness so, if you can take the first dose at bedtime you may be blessed with sleeping through the gastric distress and be able to take the additional doses with much less discomfort.

I wish I didn't know so much about this.
