I want to go to Fiji. Since several of you have been there please spill it!!!

How long does a flight take from US (Houston). Where do you fly into? Where have you been/stayed while there? When did you go? If recently did you see a problem such as the coral dying off? Anything else you want to tell me????- would be appreciated!!! Looks like a great place.

I thought I wanted to go to the Pacific Islands, until I read "The Sex Lives of Cannibals."

I went about 3 years ago. It's about 11 -12 hour flight from L.A. Flew into Nadi. I was on a live-aboard, so didn't spend much time on land. No problem with the coral, the diving was spectacular.

Went a few years ago. Those Fijians are very, very huge!! I stayed at resorts on the "mainland", it was OK. Maybe the small resort islands are better. AC is the best in the world so it's hard to compare. I liked the Cook Islands better than Fiji.

That's interesting hawkgirl. When you say you enjoyed the Cook Islands more than Fiji, did you mean the island(s) experience itself or the diving?

I've been diving in the Cook Islands and while I had a pretty good good time, didn't think it was spectacular. My friends that own the dive op there, actually prefer (in fact rave about) the diving in Fiji, so I'm curious.

A fish and a bird can fall in love, but where will they build their nest?

MALIBU, We dove a bunch of bommies(sp?) which are basically large coral pillars that extend up to within a few feet of the surface. Those were great for snorkeling between dives. I just don't know if the resorts or tour operators offer trips to those sites. They were a ways out there.
