Wow, this is an old thread, I take it the Sittee river isn't very popular, or most people only post before a trip and hardly thereafter.
I am leaning towards Stann Creek and the river/coast there.
Any experiences?
Is it windy everyday in Feb? Mar? Anyone seen an almanac?
The best fishing seems to be in May, but who can wait?
I've talked to Horace and he is reasonable for my
budget but has anyone else been guided by him?

Some of those pictures were from Tobacco Caye.

One was Ocean's Edge, with the upper deck/walkway. smile
The colorful cabins are Gaviota.

Great pics. Lots of memories for me in them too, we have been in many of those places.

You bought in Sittee Pt.? How's it growing? We generally stay in that area but this year didn't.
B&D to be exact.
The shores of Placencia, Hopkins and Tobacco Caye are all very familiar. Thanks for sharing smile

yes it is growing but it still has a pretty remote feel to it & hope it stays that way,
but there is new construction going on every time we go down...
lots of new expats...
Jaguar Reef seems to always have a new project even after they have rebuilt everything after the fire.

There are actually Condo's going up eek yep that's right condo's in Hopkins. frown

We've stayed at B&D also & really liked it but lately it just doesn't have the same feel confused there have been some changes as of late.

Thanks for the updates. We skipped B&D for a change of scenery.

Condos, there goes the neighborhood eek

Yes, may your area stay remote.

We stayed on the peninsula this year a few days and were amazed at all the changes there too.

Maya Breeze Inn is truly a delightful spot if you want a change, in Maya Beach.

We may one day be a neighbor, not in Sittee, but still on the shore laugh more toward Commerce Bight.

Next time you're there, go take a look, by boat. The dock is in smile

Thanks CND for the pix, and thank both you and NYGal for the info. I really aim to explore that area in the near future -- I didn't expect to read about condos going up, so I guess I better make it soon. Thanks NYG, for pointing out some of those pix were of Tobacco Caye, another place on my list I also hope the areas see limited development. It's hard to maintain an Indiana Jones experience with condo development around.

DBD ok there are only 6 being built right now but there a “proposed” 24 or something like that. I guess I shouldn’t mention the "proposed" Golf course, Air strip, Entertainment center & casino... I hope these are all just someone's optimistic pipe dream but it has been said.
TR you don’t monitor this board do you wink

If you come down you will not be disappointed (you'll been humming the Indiana Jones theme) laugh

NYG where is Commerce Bight? Have you bought yet or still looking? New town beach has some nice look beach lots no roads yet just by boat
Sharon has some pics on her web site. See ya around the neighbor hood.

Thats a lot of great information. I kinda see why people don't advertise these last bastions of peace and quiet.
It's Mother Nature's toll, the expense is paid by the unspoiled environment, each time you visit the garden, the smaller the yield is next time.
After you've been there you want to keep it the same way you left it.
That said,I however, will hopefully be leaving some scabs in the mouths of a multitude of fish,
and some stories of a coupla drunken pale gringos
from Canada, hitting a grand slam on their last day of fishing.
I've found last minute airfare to Belize... about $1300 CDN plus the Dandriga hop and buses. While searching that, a conundrum, Cuba for $198 CDN, $1300 all inclusive plus charter.
What are the differences between the two destinations for a coupla Islamorada experienced bone-fishers, other than prices, and where are my best chances of renting my own boat?

We are approx. 4 miles South of Dangriga. There is a Large port with a pier at Commerce Bight.
We can see that when we look North smile

Very near to New Town, but the ony beach, other than ours has a house on it. That house is only about 5 years old, no dock there.

We too are boat only laugh that's why I said, go by boat.
Lots of new palms. Large clearing. Small worker house. It's monitored.
Keep Looking on the map smile
