Hi there.
My fiance & I are planning on going to Belize for our honeymoon next October (I know....not the best season there but....). I'd been leaning towards spending our week there in Cayes Caulker, but I'm a little worried we'll get bored, some people seem to think a day is enough there. We're looking for lazing on the beach, swimming, snorkeling, touring the local area, etc. I'm considering Ambergris Cayes as well, but I don't want anything that's "too" touristy & commerialized.
Looking for people's thoughts.
Thanks!

IMAHO I recommend 2-3 nights on Caulker, then the rest of your time on Ambergris. That way you'll get a dose of really slow and simple, then a chance to do more of the same on a different island or kick up your heels and party hearty.

A half day on Caye Corker is about all I can handle without going into a comma.... to each his own.

Since you are going in October, offseason, why don't you make reservations on Caye Caulker for your first couple of days and see how you like it. You can stay or go on! It is a very small island, I go nuts there in about a day, but if I were on my honeymoon, who knows? If you find it to be to laid back, check out AC. The cayes are only a half hour ferry ride apart. Both islands have excellent outfits that you can book tours with, good restaurants, etc, there is just not as many on Caye Caulker and the nightlife is, shall we say, limited!

Caye Caulker was a dud to me, but to be honest, our trip there was so long and drawn out, that we were in the WORST mood by the time we got there. It was probably a "no win" situation. It was hot-hot, couldn't find a decent, cheap place to stay , and it seemed more like a college/backpacker destination (which is fine!), but not our scene. Ambergris has more to do, more options. A bit more pricey though. My fave would still be Placencia, all things considered. Anyway...enjoy!! laugh :p

I've seen you, Ernie, on Saturday nights. Its not a coma... more like "cruise control".
