I have a possible job offer for next year on AC. I am the sole parent of a toddler.

How much will a full time nanny/housekeeper cost?

Can one survive comfortably with a child on $2000 US a month take home? (safe house, utilities, cable TV, internet, decent food)

Is there some where I can buy a bike with a child carrier?

Are the paths bad enough to need an off road stoller?

thanks, Daniel

I have a cleaning lady/nanny/cook that works for me Monday thru Saturday 8 am to 5 pm and I pay her $300 Bz per week. Over the years I have been sure to give her time off with pay when it is convenient for me and always a Xmas bonus etc. She is very highly paid compared to other women in her profession. You should be able to find a babysitter for $200 Bz per week - but why not go for someone that is willing to do all.

If you rent a one bed apartment you are looking at around $900 Bz per month. If you get a 2 bed apartment and have the maid live-in you can pay her less but you will pay more in rent! Don't forget that familiarity can breed contempt and you might be better off having a "daily" baby sitter. I am sure you can easily have her mind the child on the occasional night so you can go out and have a life too.

Food is not cheap here unless you eat only local fare.

On $2000 US per month you will definitely need to live frugally. It is not impossible to be comfortable, but what about health/medical insurance etc. It is the incidental costs that take you over the edge.

This is a fantastic place to raise kids and you can live a simple but happy and healthy life here.

Good luck!
