Hello and Happy New Year! I was hoping for some advice from other destination brides who held their weddings on Ambergris Caye. I'm struggling to get a good guesstimate of how many guests I will have.

How many of your invitees actually came to your wedding (e.g., 30 our of 100)? At this point I really have no idea what to expect! Any thoughts on this topic are welcome! Thanks!

Charmcitycat,
We have done several weddings on the Island, and have anywhere from 6 to 90 guests. Most everyone says if you give enough notice, you'll get a good response. The wedding with 6 just invited their immediate families, and the one with 90 chartered a plane.
Best wishes!

I would totally recommend staying at Caribe Island Resort too (ibanole's place). We have stayed there a few times and it's a GRAND place! Great condos, service, food, pool, beach, view and amenities too! Check it out under lodgings on this site. E-mail Miss Vicki as well (ibanole) as I know she has many wonderful ideas for your guests in forms of invitations etc. Have you been to Ambergris Caye before? Can I come too??? wink
Have a wonderful wedding!!!

What I would do... let the guests know that they must be registered at the hotel by a certain date, and deposited with the airline by a certain date, etc. That way you will know for sure.

I agree with Hope, you can't go wrong with talking to Ibanole at Caribe Island (and staying there also). eek

I would agree with Caribe Island as well. It has the right combination of everything you need, and yet it is just the right size to be very personal with the details. (It was my first choice for our daughter's wedding last June, but even though I had the checkbook I let the bride and groom have their way. Long story.)

We ended up with 21 non-resident guests, all family. Our daughter specifically did not encourage her friends to travel along since she wanted a no-stress affair, and did not want to be the tour guide since she had been there with us 4 times before. A big "celebration" party was held back in the States afterward.

A local "planner" is helpful if for nothing else than getting the Belizean paperwork done without a hassle. (On the off chance that this is to be a Catholic ceremony that is another issue entirely. We have a whole LOT of experience regarding that.)

Anyways, Happy New Year to ya'all, even those above who are living on some pathetic little island in the Pacific. Hope and Dan, are ya tuned in?

CC...
Not that I plan on ever getting married again, let alone on AC... but what probs did you experience with a Catholic service? I'm Catholic and am just curious. eek

I know nowadays in the States you have to go to classes, etc. Back in my day all you had to do was show up for the ceremony. laugh

Catholic church in Belize requires you bring marriage class paperwork from your home parish. Ceremonies here are performed by ministers of other denominations.

Denny, We could have the party of the century on AC if you would get married here.........
And I thought you'd do ANYTHING for a good party.... (I bet GOVIKES and WINDJAMMER would bring out their floozy dresses).

Anyone else here think that Denny should get married on the Island? OK, which females are now saying "pick me, pick me"???????

Guess you didn't know that I'm also a great matchmaker!!
Love ya!

Thanks for the advice! Thankfully (no offense!) I am not Catholic so I don't have to worry about that. And, no, I've never been to AC before - I'm definitely looking forward to it! I've wanted to visit for many years and decided my wedding was a good enough excuse!

After speaking with my fiance and soon-to-be-mother-in-law it looks like I better plan for a 60 guest wedding to be on the safe side.

For the ceremony, I would like to have it on the beach - what resorts/hotels have a beach with this capacity (60 guests)? I would like to stay south of the break if possible (don't want to have to take a water taxi everywhere...).

Also, a lot of the hotels are near the airport (a function of the size of the island, I'm sure) - if I choose one near the airport for my ceremony should I be concerned about the noise of planes coming in?

Thanks!

In a word... yes you will hear airplanes if you are having th ceremony outside at the beach.

Ha ha Vicky... just wait until all the females read your posting and see that I am free... it will be mind staggering. eek
