We are getting married in Belize next June. The last 4-5 days we plan to go to Placencia for the Lobster Fest. I have read through so many of these great messages but want some recent info. We are looking for a clean, moderately priced place with pool and lots of friendly folks for chatting. We love getting the feel of the locals. Right now we are planning to have a car so that we can experience the Hummingbird Hwy. I've narrowed it down somewhat to: Kitty's, Tradewinds, Robert's Grove, SeaSpray, Manatee Inn. Looking for those in the know to help me decide....

Congratulations!

Out of all the places you listed, only Robert's Grove has a pool.

I don't know if you have seen this site...but
Placencia.com will give you lots of information.

The places you mention are all good in their way, but they are very different.

Robert's Grove (I've stayed there several times), for example, is a luxury resort whereas Manatee Inn (I've visited but not stayed there -- it's pleasant but not on the beach) and Sea Spray (it's one of the larger places in Placencia) are budget/low moderate hotels, and Tradewinds is a low moderate spot with cut but tiny lcabanas. Kitty's (stayed there several times) has a variety of accommodations and basically is a moderately priced resort.

As someone else observed, of these only Robert's Grove has a pool. Actually it has two pools. Manatee Inn used to have one but the pool was destroyed in Iris.

Yes, I agree. They're all really different. I have been to Placencia twice and it's still my favorite, overall place in Belize. Roberts Grove is more of a luxury, resort type of place. You will be more sequestered from town and the locals. Sea Spray is where we've stayed. It is more of a budget place, but clean and comfy; right on the water, and right in town. You will get more of a "feel" for Belize here, more so than staying at Roberts Grove. You'll get to talk to and hang with the locals. But RG will be more luxurious, offer more amenities (pool, massage, dive shop, tours arranged, etc). It just depends on what you want. Kitty's is somewhat in between the two. Hope this helps; at any rate, enjoy. Right at this moment, I am wishing I was there! ah! smile frown laugh
