Hello everybody, we just started planning our next trip to Belize May 2004. We have been to AC twice but never to the mainland. We are considering Placencia. Has anyone stayed at Ranguana Lodge? Is snorkeling accessible from the beach? Any other suggestions would be much appreciated. :rolleyes:

I haven't stayed at Ranguana but I have seen the cabins -- nice for a moderate place. No, there's no good snorkeling from the beach.

No place on the mainland has snorkeling off the beach. For that in Belize, head to Tobacco Caye, Southwater Caye or other caye on the reef.

Just like on Ambergris Caye, you have to go by boat to snorkel. The ride is fun and the money spent is well it's worth.

Placencia has it's own beauty, you will see when you go.

And incidentally, there is walk in snorkeling from Ranguana Caye, on the reef, about 19 miles from the village. They have 4 cabins on the island for rent for 100.00 per night, meals prepared for 35.00pp per day. Kayaks out there as well. Really lovely, if you really love that sort of thing.

ok....I'm sold, I have been reading everything I could find about Tobacco Caye and it sounds perfect for us. We will spend 5 nights in Placencia and 5 nights on TC. I can't wait until May. Thanks for all the info.
