Leaving little ol' Clinton now with the chipwagon repainted white. Indescript trailer with fold-down window and, I'm playing Bonnie Raitt loud and clear and hoping the boy at the border thinks I'm really just going to my boyfriend's in Michigan for the weekend, but really.... I'm OFF!!! Away!! All the way down the Mississippi to Brownsville Texas, where I'll have another story for the border officials, BUT... who cares! I'm pumping fries and I'm in the U S of A!!!!

Okay, okay. I smuggled nothing through the border except a few hundred pounds of potatoes. And I ain't drinkin, or smokin' cuz I'm DRIVING! So there's three bunks in this trailer, plenty to eat, good entertainment (tambourines, saxophones, spoons) and I'm going all the way to Belize.

You two, Dobe and Klc, get on or get off, but gettin' on is WAY better!

Okay, now I'm getting organized. I JUST wanted to get through the border and now I am at an interstate rest area.

I have three bunks inside. I can put the potatoes on the roof. That will make some more room inside. My original plan was to head down the Mississippi River and then through Mexico. I figure three, mebbe four weeks until the wagon and I (WE) hit the Mexican border, as I have to make gas money selling food. Cabishe?? Anyone have a flashlight for the map? Oh, I'm alone.

Need to go through small towns and meet friendly hungry people with lotsa loot. And small children with none who need samples! Better stock up the ice cream freezer somewhere soon too.

He's grumpy, lovable, non-discriminating, HOT and .... kind, a family guy. And he's here so the "WE" in the chipper is a hidden agenda for lots. My Dad's here too. He could never pass a chipper. Gravy, gravy, gravy... doesn't anyone put vinegar on their chips anymore? (secretly, I encourage gravy because I charge 50c for it, but the vinegar (and I have SIX kinds) is complimentary. My gravy is great, and I offer vegetarian gravy...

A customer said today I was nearing Cedar Rapids. I've stuck mostly to two-lane blacktop but got into a nice little gravel road spot and stayed there for a day. Heard mockingbirds for the first time in my life. Got some laundry done.

To Kill A Mockingbird is my lifetime favourite book AND film. I read the book in early grades. Saw the film when I was about twelve, I think. All the things I learned there, I have always stuck with. My own Dad was very much an Atticus Finch; loyal, upright, patient. Many, many laughs too.

I don't know, something about 'freshly plucked from chickens' just didn't do it for me.
I do, however, hate gravy on fries. Give me vinegar anyday.

HF, I adore hot food. "Too hot" is not in my vocab!

Every year I choose a spice/herb to become really familiar with. This is the year for cilantro - love it in curries!

How does it work, at the PARTEE, calling people by their REAL names, HF? By gawd it will be a chore for my small non-brunette head.

Wanna, I saw you in a TV commercial the other day and thought, "There's that girl! She's a star!" Not that you weren't before...

I am so excited about the Partee, WJ. Especially as we got a HUGE dump of snow today (oops, I mean, I heard Ontario got a big snowfall.. the chipwagon and I are "on the road", of course....

Kansas City, Kansas City here I come. There are no people standing along this road holding "Partee or Bust" signs, but I'm leaving the onions frying as I drive, Pied Piper style so I'll have some customers for supper.

Just a 'sec, gotta put this baby on cruise control and go back and check the onions.....

Leaving the chipwagon on cruise control is against the law. Funny, I thought a friend of mine's uncle got the other half way to Florida just putting his Winnie on cruise and sleeping in the back...

The couple I bumped into were very understanding and stayed for supper, breakfast and lunch the next day until we got enough towtrucks.

AND FREE ADVERTISING!!! They said they would recommend the extra footlong with three kinds of cheese to anyone they met in the hospital.

They're outta here! And some fancy plane or helicopter picked them up. Wish I had that much money.

But I'm going to have to hire someone to drive and sleep and drive and sleep. Slicing onions, preparing the hot pepper/raspberry sauce is too much for a wee girl.

New menu item for Oklahoma (hey, isn't that where the corn is as high as an elephant's eye)? Going to be there soon and I need to build something I want to eat because I HATE MY FOOD and I'm starting to stop at other people's food stands.

Have not been able to find a lugger, potato lugger that is, since Dobe deserted me and hitched off with those gorgeous chickies in the red 'vette. Dobe, I'll mail your laundry and don't be thinking I washed it....

Maybe a hot corn salsa orrrr... some sort of salad, with beans in it. Or a casserole of some sort that could sit and ripen, like iced tea.

I don't think you HATE your food - I think you like for others to cook for you - sometimes.
That's the price you pay for being the STAR of the kitchen!!!!!!
Spicy black-eyed pea salad - yummmm!
Sounds interesting doesn't it?

We'll put it in the slowcooker the night before HF. Then we can recover ourselves, and make it self-serve! But we could do a brunchy thing too but that might call for some champers (champagne).

This hitchiking cowboy I picked up the other day was doing "flamers" and spilled a drink all over my MAP! Looks like the opening titles in Bonanza.

Now I don't know where I am or where I am going, but I didn't before either.

He burned off most of his moustache too so now he only HALF looks like Jesse James. Nice hat though, reminds me of the "Far Side" vultures.

In his sweetness, Y'r Honour Denny Shane slipped the receipt to me of the real/true Phillie steak sandwich..... NOW I have the SPELL and know nothing more than I did before but can offer (my absolute favourite, Michigan Red Hots with cheese)

Maybe someone could set up a blind date... it doesn't matter. I love him already. He is a fine human being, my Denny.

Who could ask for. ask for, anything more??? Which musical, Denny??

I'll write it next week Wanna, after the yard sale (it's done), the dump runs, the move to a gd THIRD floor after they promised me a ground floor and LEASED it without CALLING me (those turds!) the buying of a truck, the sale of the old chipper, the buying of the new chipper, the LESSONS how to back it up, the MOVE, more dump runs, more thrift store dumps, storage dumps, goodlord I'm busy. And then, buying a load of dynamite so I can get my SON to leave the house too.

What shall I call this book?

I go from Houston to Florida after that Gail, to see a "friend" I have not seen for decades and was on the infamous "List of Five" New Year's resolution two years ago.

Then back to TO to spend time with another "5 List" member, my darling friend Don Carmody who is presently shooting "Lucky Number Slevin" there.

My travel arrangements have changed (not the virtual ones, the true ones). Bumped into a friend of mine yesterday who drives truck from here to Chi every week. Hadn't talked to him all winter and he is a RIOT. So now he drives truck from here to S. Carolina once weekly and I am leaving with him next Monday, riding to Charleston, hopping on a plane to West Palm, visiting my buddy and going to Houston from there! WOW!

Saved myself about four hundred bucks too, and get to laugh for two days!!!
