stayed at Parrots nest for a few days about 4 yrs ago. New owners since then. Off the beaten path, cheap, clean & basic. Nice setting on the River. Go for the treehouse if it's available.

If you are not comfortable in basic, no frills sleeping/shower facilitie (assuming no major upgrades in past 4 years) you should be OK. It appeals a lot to the backpacker crowd.

Secret Garden Placencia Offline
Tradewinds in Placencia is very nice. They are cabanas right on the beach at the point so it's quiet and reasonably priced.

Here are a couple of brief reviews of Tradewinds and Parrot's Nest.

>>

TWO STARS Tradewinds, Placencia Village; tel. 501-523-3122; e-mail trdewndpla@btl.net; www.beautifulbelize.com/tradewindshotel. If you want a beachfront cottage but don’t want to pay the higher prices north of the village, Tradewinds is your best bet. The seven pastel-colored cabins on the beach at the south end of Placencia village are cute as a bug’s ear. They’re not large, but at about US$60 in-season, and as low as US$40 off-season, they’re a good value. Fridges, fans and two double beds are standard.

ONE STAR + Parrot’s Nest, Bullet Tree Village, (Mail: P.O. Box 108, San Ignacio, Cayo); tel. 501-820-4058; e-mail parrot@btl.net; www.parrot-nest.com. Directions: From San Ignacio, take Bullet Tree Falls Rd. about 3 miles. There are hourly buses, or take a collective (share taxi). Ever wanted to sleep in a tree house? Parrot’s Nest at Bullet Tree Falls on the Mopan River, about 3 miles from San Ignacio, can make your dream come true, at a modest price. There are two cute tree houses, plus four cabins, all with outside facilities near the Mopan River. “High adventure at low prices” is the motto here. Most people who stay here really like it. New management has improved the operation. Rates around US$40 double year-round. Meals are also available.
