Cayo - can you spend a night there or just for the day? Hiking, caves, waterfalls, river stuff, mt biking, ruins, rapelling....what are you interested in?

anyone stayed in the jungle cabanas?....are they tree houses?....do they have anything edible besides us?...

cabanas are nice - not tree houses - screened in all around.....love those outdoor showers too, though if you spend a couple bucks more, you can have your own.

Got an upgrade one time there but itill used the outdooor showers. Great food prepared onsite and there were no guests/staff missing in the AM

okay, i was gone for a week and no one noticed...i see how it is...at any rate, my trip is approaching and was really in need of some good opinions.....i have a day and a half to fill with adventure....out of all of the caves branch adventures, which one is funnest and most of all , can someone help me figure out the bus schedules and where to catch them?....

I'sd opt for either Black Hole Drop or Rover of caves, if I had only one day available ( day & a half won't cut it).

From bus station in BC, take the Belmopan bus, then transfer there to Dangriga bus, they will drop you off alongside road right in front of CB, walk back the dirt road a ways and its heaven.

they will run ya back, but it's fairly $$. I would think you could do the bus thing in reverse - it runs several times a day.. I just have no idea on schedule but I'm guessing it would be fine if your flight is not until 4.

(and if you go tubing, you WILL need those zip locks )

i have attempted to contact to cb people in hopes they can get me lined out on a return trip...

Caves Branch will drive you to the int'l for your flight for $120 + tax (now gone up to 9% from 8%). Or you can do the bus thing in reverse. You can find bus schedules on www.belizenet.com You would need the Z line from Dangriga to Belmopan and then any bus from Belmopan to BZ City, then taxi to airport. Much more hassle but much less cost.

barb, is the caves branch area in dangriga?...its a bit confusing...also, how/where do i catch the bus from caves?...thumb it?...how long does it take to get to/from there?....

The entrance to CB is on the Hummingbird Hwy en route to Dangriga. So it is not IN Dangriga but you would have to catch the bus heading from Dangriga toward Belmopan. It travels often. They would know the time it passes by at CB. You would have to flag it down outside the entrance to CB. Common procedure, so I'm sure they look for people standing by the road at that place. The ride to Belmopan is about 15 minutes. Then you would change busses to one going to BZ City - that drive is about 1 1/2 hrs. Not sure of the connection times. You may also be able to get a bus that goes straight to BZ City (it would stop in Belmopan but no change of busses). Taxi from the bus station to the airport is about 20-25 minutes. I could also hook you up with an awesome taxi driver in BZ City who would take you to CB and come back to get you but it would still cost about $120 each way.

Actually you could fly into Belomopan now on the new Maya Air scheduled service ($59 o/w from the muni) and CB could pick you up there ($25 each way). This would be the quickest way to get there. Flight from Belmo. back to the int'l is $70 o/w.

at this point i am not so sure i can make all the connections with the time constraints, but really want to try....i just cant afford to miss the ride home...it appears that the jungle tours begin at 9 am and end about 4, so all i have to do on the last day is make it to the airport by 2 pm, which shouldnt be a problem....

do you know anything about catching the bus in bz city?....we are staying at the biltmore...

If you are already staying in BZ City (and still considering Caves Branch) why don't you just rent a vehicle for the day and drive yourself. You would only be able to do a one day tour there. They don't do half day tours. Yes, from the Biltmore you would take a taxi to the bus station. If you want to do a similar tour to CB but on your schedule, I can hook you up with a great guide who will do rapelling, caving, etc. But you would have to get yourself to Cayo.

yup we rtook it into account SJ....that's prob one reason toad opted the way he did...late bus could wreak havoc on his orchestrated departure

Closest jungle cave thingy is about 1 1/2 hrs from Bz City. It's worth it. The mainland is very different but equally as spectacular as the cayes in its own way.
