Ok, so here's the deal. Not unlike the American revolutionaries and the Britts, Mexicans were having problems with the Spaniards. In an event similar to the Boston Tea Party (no taxation without represntation), the Mexicans refused to pay the taxes on a ship load of mayonaise. Following the lead of their neighbors to the north they dressed up like a bunch of Indians (that took about 30 seconds) and sunk the boat, mayonaise and all. It was on May 5th. Cinco De Mayo
"and it's been 100 yrs since mankind has been able to write the date as 05/05/05"
Hmmm..that would be special but I am pretty sure that there were no calenders 100 years ago. The only way to keep track of time was by scratching lines on the cave wall...
Hey Chris: No need to remember... just Google Calendar History and you will see that calendars in one form or another have been around for much, much more than 1 century! BTW it is spelled "calendar"
sorry ChrisW.....perhaps it was your eyes wern't quoite awake and you read 1000 years
and who said you need a calendar to write the date anyway?
And actually, the Romans painted them on their walls, if not carving in stone or marble. My old high school Latin teacher would be proud of me, I DID learn something useful from her
