FYI: As the below story from Prensa Libre reports, 18 Americans in a tour bus near Tikal were stopped and robbed by four armed bandits on March 30. Under the new administration in Guatemala, things are getting better ... but unfortunately incidents like this still happen in the Peten.

Sujetos armados despojaron de dinero y objetos de valor a 18 estadounidenses, en la ruta al Parque Nacional Tikal, ayer.

Ovidio Aldana Fajardo, jefe de la Policía Nacional Civil (PNC), en Petén, confirmó lo anterior y añadió que de inmediato se ordenó el rastreo de los cuatro presuntos asaltantes en las cercanías de la aldea El Caoba, Flores, en el kilómetro 36, ruta a Tikal.

Las víctimas se conducían en el microb�s de la empresa Servicios Turísticos de Petén (STP), placas C-85828, guiado por Pedro Espinoza Peña.

Seguridad

Rudel Alvarez, operador de turismo, lamentó el hecho y pidió a la Policía que dé más seguridad a los visitantes extranjeros.
