another good quote from the Belize Forums
=================
Traveled for nearly a month in Belize last summer with kids ages 17, 18, and 20. I'd discourage the discman thing - our kids have music going all the time at home but would have missed out on the sounds of the jungle, crowds, rain, local music, and conversations if they had kept their ears full of home.
The sounds on the buses were especially enjoyable. One time we had a guy standing right over us in the aisle singing AT THE TOP OF HIS LUNGS to every song and ad on the radio. What a riot! We listened with pride and interest as our usually reserved daughter struck up a trip-long conversation with an elderly woman returning for good to Hopkins after living in Chicago for 30 years. We played 20 questions with little kids sitting near us, laughed till our sides ached at a mirthful baby in front of us, and one son still writes back and forth with a cute Belmopan girl he met on a bus trip. Our kids also found themselves fishing, playing soccer, climbing coconut trees, hunting for lobsters, and getting advice on what local candy and music to buy from village kids. Hope your trip means as much to your family as ours did (does!) to us.
