I am interested in renting a car in Belize City and driving to the San Igancio area or Mt. Pine Ridge. I would like to know where to rent the car and approx how much I can expect it to cost per day. Thanks.

When you get off the plane at the airport there are several rental agencies right there. Walk across the parking lot and speak to them directly. I recommend Crystal Auto, I have met the owner and his vehicles are top notch. Figure around 700 US per week for a Geo. More for a bigger ride.

WOW, so $100 US per DAY!??? I have found some sites that say A$60-65 us per day for suvs. I have never rented a car there but maybe next time I visit the mainland I will and only need the cheapest/economy car.

Doesn't make any difference in price. Most companies will meet you at either location but you'll probably (in my experience) be driven to their office to fill out all the paper work. If you're going to be in SP first then just open the phone book, go to the yellow pages and start calling around for the best rates. Personally I use Crystal and have never had a problem.

Price has to do with the fact that there is a limited market and that a huge duty is paid on vehicles coming into the country.

We booked with Budget - 540US per week for a Suzuki Vitara SUV. That rate is high season and doesn't include 9% tax or any surcharges.
