Hi all, a search under "topless" revealed little useable info. Usually this was because the person asking the question was either looking for a "topless beach", as in a place with a sign that said "you can take your top off here" or they were really looking for a "nude beach". So, let me try to phrase the question(s) better:

1. If I go to the XYZ Resort, somewhere in San Pedro, sit down on the beach and take my top off, will I be breaking any laws (local, state or national)? Will there be other women who are sunning topless? If so, a few or more than that? Are others at the resort beach likely to take offense, or have they seen this before?

2. Would a resort in Placencia be any different?

3. We're also considering a yacht charter for part of our stay. Is it safe to assume that out on the boat nobody would care if I went topless?

Not trying to start a discussion of politics/morals/God knows what else here. Just looking for the facts. Thanks!

I just returned from AC and at the resort I stayed at someone off the cruise line came to the resort as part of a tour. Her top goes off and we all frowned. No one told her to put her top back on but it was frowned upon. Keep in mind that there are many children walking around trying to sell necklaces and bracelets, there are children playing on the beaches and there are many young men walking along the beach.

AC is a modest town. You will rarely seeing any of the local young women or older women in bathing suits, let alone going topless.

I would say if you're coming to AC, respect the culture and the people that live there.

My opinion. Keep your top on unless you are in a secluded area.

However, despite what that "letch" missing-guy might be trying to promote I can tell you, it's rare that nudity in any form is acceptable on AC.

The people there are so incredibly kind-hearted that you might not hear a complaint, but it does offend their sensibilities.

They'll tolerate it, for the most part, but it's not customary. Don't believe what you might read in Jimmy Buffett's latest work.

Greetings from Ontario, the shores of Lake Huron where it is LEGAL to go topless but no one does except the local peelers/strippers. Today one would not be comfortable topless... it's chilly, but nowhere near as cold as usual.

Have been reading this message board as I am considering a move to Belize and wondered what the people were like and can say... you guyz are hilarious! But is this true that one seldom wears a bathing suit?? I don't mean walking down the street - that is reasonable and tasteful/respectful, but certainly they are worn at the beach, are they not?

I am confused at times as to who is actually THERE in AC and who is wishfully wistfully WANTING to be there. I guess you are all THERE in your heads and that's the important step.
