One of my good friends keeps telling me “You shouldn’t try to change people.” My question is: What is the difference in interfering in a way of life and living a meaningful life?
confused

You can not change people. Interfering and nagging just makes them get annoyed.

Love yourself, love your life and surround yourself with people you enjoy and love.

If you think somebody needs to change - leave them be, and get out of their way!

Works for me.

Thanks - I am well aware of that fact that we can't change individual people. I see that I wasn't clear. I guess I'm trying to get clarity on how we can do good deeds, help people help themselves, help the community and not be seen as interfering.
Now, before you get your knickers in a knot; think about all the things you like to do for the kids. What about the environment? Education? Helping a local get started in business? Raising money for good causes? Making investments instead of giving handouts.
I’m sure you can add to the list. If not I’ll be more than happy to remove the topic.

interesting question really...

i think that it comes down to "judgment"...meaning:

If you are trying to make a change because you judge a situation to be one that needs change, you are interferring.

If you are trying to make a change that the recipient (for lack of a better word) is open and interested in...then you are helping.

as i contemplate a move to belize, EVERYONE up here in the land of Hummers, BMW's and million dollar town homes, tells me "its so sad, people there are so poor". I say, thats a JUDGEMENT. MEaning, who is to say they are not happier? I can assure you i know lots of people with lots of money and they are no happier than anyone else...but if you pitied them and said "here, let me take your money from you, then you will be happy" surely we all know what the response would be.... SOOOO, maybe, if you go to a group of people living a simple life and say "Here, you need all these things, we are going to make your life better, you are so poor and unhappy"...interferring. If you say, "Hey, are you interested in these things" helping...

maybe? i think? interesting question in need to many a cocktail to discuss until resolution can be reached smile

you are correct. Most of my friends here are much, much happier than all the wealthy coworkers and friends I had back where I was before. Many are richer in life here. And they are not so poor as your friends think, the countries surrouding are much poorer. Manyhave more than they imagine. Looking forward to meeting you Lara.
