Twenty Belizean students are the lucky recipients of medical scholarships to Cuba. According to a press release from the Cuban Embassy, the students will attend the Latin American School of Medicine in Havana, with classes set to begin on April first. The selection process included interviews by the ministries of Education and Foreign Affairs, and the Embassy of Cuba in Belize, with emphasis on low income applicants. There are currently one hundred and twenty-eight Belizeans studying in Cuba, sixty-seven of whom are hoping to become doctors. The scholarships are in keeping with a Cooperation Programme that Cuba has with Belize.

Here in San Pedro we have many Cubans living; many Cuban medical specialists taking care of us; many of our young people in Cuba studying medicine and other disciplines not available to us otherwise. Cuba is a very good neighbor that offers us many opportunities. We aren't interested in the US political position, only a practical one of aid to our little country.

Nice! It all adds up. Cuba is a vital part of the aid to Belize, as is Europe, Canada and the US.

cubaphobia runs deep in the ol US of A. i know, i'm Cuban. used to be called a commie pretty regularly, fortunately lately more and more people seem to be getting over it. folks sure feel threatened by one tiny little island. you'd think it's goliathland and we are lilliputians. the USA is the one with the nuclear bomb. what the heck is cuba going to throw at the US mainland, bird flu?

i suppose it takes two to tango. what would one do without the ability to ream on the other?

enemies required.

better subject. just saw the johnny cash movie. could NOT fogure out before hand how reese witherspoon could win best actress for that. became obvious as the film went on. great flick.

The biggest problem with Cuba in the US. is Ex-cubans. The cuban anti-Cuba lobby in the US is the main thing than keeps us acting so dumb. I have been Cuba 5 or 6 times. Great people!! I hope they both allow free travel and trade soon. I believe that would take care of most of the issues today.

The most of the issues that existed in the bay of pigs era are long gone.
