Is it just me - or does that tongue look like it has licked a few gold stars?
Stickers can never be banned as long as you have them in your heart...

Dog biscuits are banned though!

For the first time today in PG I saw canned cat food in Supals market. I thought of this thread, how sick is that. Anyway it was Wiskas canned kitty food.

Amen to that, Sir Isaac.

But when you buy imported goods, you help pay off the countries HUGE debt with the large import duty paid.

That way, the Government can then "borrow" even more.

Ad infinitum.

SIN, I would like to buy a can of fresh and tasty Belizean pineapple juice ready to pour into a Caribbean rum.

Well, I can get the rum.

Protectionism is the security blanket of the 2nd rate businessman.

Protectionism is the security blanket of a third world developing nation.

In efforts to help keep Belize sustainable I would purchase a pineapple grown here in BELIZE and sold by a BELIZEAN farmer to a fruit market here on the island. A quick peel and squeeze and I have fresh pineapple juice (no aluminum can taste and no preservatives and no insect parts - yes they're in there). Viola!

Taking just a few minutes out of my relaxed life here in SP has just helped to grow our growing economy.

Purchasing imports put very little money into the economy as the capital goes back out to restock new imports. Duh? It's called a trade inbalance. Every time we choose to go the easy route and buy foreign products we do nothing to help Belize.

If it is such a big deal and you don't care about our economy, move to Hawaii and drink all the Dole you wish. They have good cheese there also.

SIN, when was the last time you even bought a pineapple? I can tell you that it's seldom a "quick peel and a squeeze" by the time you get by the rot. I actually do eat fresh pineapple by the pound, it's the fresh stuff, not out of a can. It's not exactly convenient to prepare. And buying a "fresh" pineapple is very hit and miss...you can buy one that looks and feels great, take it home and find you bought a rotted carcass of a fruit. I doubt the bartender at your local drinking hole has the time to peel and blend fresh pineapple when you and other patrons are demanding quick service.

Big H does a good, fresh pineapple juice, I'll try it and ff it's freely available I'll buy it, no problem. You know full well that it's scarce especially here on the island.

SIN, what do you think of the BTL's VOIP blocking? Do you think that Ashcroft's excuse of "protecting Belizean jobs at BTL" is good for the Belizean economy?

What helps economies world-side is free trade and competition. It has been shown time and time again that protectionism helps no-one except the multi-millionaires who bribe government officials to get it put into place.

SIN, don't take this the wrong way, but I cannot reconcile your continual support for this government and your concern for the Belizean economy. Something HAS to give. It's truly nothing personal, it's just baffling to me.

Chris are you doing better or worse then when the PUP came into power in 1998? (rhetorical)

A lot of people are. Imagine if the other guy won and rewon. The lesser of the two evils is and was my choice.

Not clouding the issue (as you di), do you agree in the fact that when you buy Belize you build Belize? Actions of the people are the first step as politicians will always be politicians. We can only do the best that we can for our home. Because much "ras" happens higher up doesn't equate to us all throwing in the towel and continuing the love affair with imported products.
