VENDORS TO PAY NEW FEES:
Marion Ali spoke with fish vendors at the Vernon Street Bridge and found that new fees are being charged, as of yesterday. A vendor who works in the area had this to say.
Vendor:
Actually the Government is taxing us twenty-five dollars a month to sell fish out here."
Marion Ali:
This has been in place?
Vendor:
Yes since yesterday they have been collecting, they collect from each stall and each boat.
Ernesto Vasquez:
That s a rental for the stall?
Vendor:
Yes that s a rental for the stall, and they did not even put the stalls out here we did, but we still have to pay them. They are collecting and we don t even have a bathroom out here.
Marion Ali:
Have you asked for one?
Vendor:
Yes we have asked them.
Marion Ali:
What has been the response?
Ernesto Vasquez:
So what are you paying for then, the space?
Vendor:
Just for the space. I think it is reasonable but what I am saying ids if they want to collect let them clean the place up.
Marion Ali:
You also go fishing, how the fuel price has affected the cost of your fish?
Vendor:
We have to sell the fish for more so that we can make back the gas money and enough money to pay your boat man and pay yourself.
Marion Ali:
Now what is the cost per pound for fish?
Vendor:
Right now fish is selling for four dollars and five dollars a pound.
