I always fly via Continental to avoid this!

I just looked on my AA itinerary for September. AA in fact redirected me through Miami, then Dallas (then over night) and then back to CA. It's only for my return flight so I assume that they are cancelling their BZE-DFW flight on certain days. (I fly out on a Thursday, which remails through Dallas). Bummer - I do not do 3 flights to get to Belize. We'll see what happens.

Gela, good thing you looked. They don't notify their passengers of any changes until 30 days prior to the flight. We were leaving in September also and I just happened to check our itinerary last night and received the surprise. We were using air miles for that flight. We fly out of Seattle, so they put us on an Alaska Airline non-stop flight to Miami and then Miami to Belize. Not to bad. I've had it with American.....will probably use Continental from here on.

Tillie, your friend's flight is still okay. I don't have an exact date as to when they're discontinuing the DFW flight or if it's a temporary change.

Loansum - I just got off the phone with AA. They said the last day they fly from Belize through Dallas is September 5. Rather than go through Miami (I hate it with a passion) and have to take 3 flights to get home to Northern California, I am cutting my trip short by 2 days. Next time, I'll fly another airlines because I too, have had with AA (I was also on a frequent flyer ticket).

Gela, our September trip is the first time going to AC via Miami.........is it a zoo?! We've never flown to Miami. This will be our first time.

Re: American Airlines

Loansum - I've connected through Miami returning from Belize, Costa Rica, Aruba, etc. I remember having over 2 hours layover to collect luggage, go through customs/immigration, recheck luggage and take the tram to the other terminal and I almost didn't make it. I waited for over an hour for my luggage. One time, I missed my connection and had to stay over night in Miami. The last time, to avoid the stress, I deliberately stayed over night in Miami. Not exactly what I like to do (when I return home - I want to GET home). Anyway, everything always works out - just bring along plenty of patience (and One Barrel ).

Gela, I agree with you on your assessment of the Miami airport. If you don't have a lot of patience, or perhaps running shoes, you are likely to be in trouble. We went through Miami to Costa Rica in January. Missed our connection on the way there, and had to seriously run throught the airport in order to not miss our connection on the way home. The combination of American Airlines and and the Miami airport, not good!!!

Re: American Airlines

We usually fly through Miami, and have never had any problem. It's a very long walk between gates, but usually have plenty of time, and the walk actually feels nice after being on a place for a couple of hours. Customs is usually very quick on the return flight, never had to wait more than a few minutes. Luggage usually beats us to the baggage claim. If the flights are too close together, then I can see how it can be stressful, but if you have at least 90 minutes, can do it, and head to the bar, in time for your next flight. Good luck...

I have seen AA do this in the past and bet that normal flights will resume after the slow season is over (like when my vacation is!).

Re: American Airlines

I fly American and have had excellent service. Yes, they stop the DFW – BZE route when reservations drop off. Remember, they only started the DFW-BZE about 5 years ago. Before that I had to go through Miami and I do not like that airport. My biggest complaint is the lack of security around your arriving luggage. Anyone can walk off with anything.
However, there is a secret to not stressing out at MIA. I used to have to take the red-eye from SFO to MIA in order to make the morning connection I learned about the health club on the top floor of the hotel IN the airport.
I don’t know what it costs now but it used to be $5.00. For that I could put my carry-on in a locker, get out my swim suit and go for a dip, nap for a couple of hours on their chaise lounge, shower and go check in the necessary 2 hours ahead of schedule. Then back up to the top floor for brunch in a really nice restaurant before retrieving my carry-on luggage .I would arrive in Belize mid-day well relaxed.
But, please don’t tell anyone I would hate to have to fight for a lounge chair.

Unfortunately, the pool and spa at the Miami International Hotel is closed for renovations. Nobody is getting that lounge chair until next year.

Reaper, TACA's the closest thing to that there is right now. Daily red eye w/ 1 less than an hour stop in San Salvador. Completely frill-free. Off work Thursday night, to the airport, on the beach by 11 am Friday! Still, if you start your own airline and can beat TACA's price and schedule, count me in! (Is that how you're thinking about spending all your racetrack earnings?)

Perhaps I could apply for a position as a flight attendant/good coffee server. They eventually land without the necessity of a parachute, right?

Vballcoach, you forgot the part about AA (or the Miami airport) I am not sure, losing our bags and not finding them for nearly a week. It's hard to totally blame the airline when the airport personal tell you to just throw your bag in an unmarked pile.

I just booked a good four legged trip on AA from BZE through DFW then traveling in the Northwest for US $735 including tax. Coming back in Sept. I had to book on a Saturday but that was OK with me.

Per some of your suggestions I checked on TACA going through San Salvador to SFO - It was more than I paid for all of the AA travel.

Lacy - Most don't have such a complicated life either. LOL But as one of my favorite books says, "Our troubles, we think, are of our own making." At least I'm not bored. Being a fat lady I appreciate the extra room on AA. Thank goodness we don't all like the same thing at the same time.
