As the island is great for rumors I am contributing to the cause by posting the latest one that I have been told:

Continental to begin direct flights from Denver to Belize.

Please let this be true!

Does anyone else have any information on this?

Tim, I assure you, that's definitely just a rumor. There could potentially be service from EWR or CLE to BZE but won't be DEN to BZE (direct).

Continental used to have a hub in DEN and still ownes several gates there. I know that Continental wants to take back the DEN market at some point. Don't know about DEN-BZE, but it is possible.

Thanks for any info you have travelqueen and/or anyone/everyone else!

As I started the post I say again- heavy on rumor. CLE would be a help. Sorry for my ignorance- where is EWR?

I think Frontier would be more likely from Denver than Continental. Frontier is flying into many Mexico destinations and continually adding more.

Keeping finger crossed. Then again they have been crossed for 17 years now on this particular subject. Even longer than I had them crossed for the bridge...

Which will happen first? A direct flight from Denver to Belize or the barge operations moving to the back? Should we take a poll?

Ya, I agree that the more likely scenario would be Frontier starting flights to BZE out of DEN. Frontier is a good airline.

EWR = Newark, NJ

Continental has direct flights to Belize from EWR (Newark) on Saturdays. I was lucky enough to get on one on one of my trips and what an easy trip that was..Back to Jersey in 4 to 5 hours or so!! There was talk that they were going to expand that service to other days.
Will check with friend from Continental on the Denver/Cleveland -Belize "rumour" to see if she's heard some buzz.

travelqueen,

My brother is a pilot for Frontier. Glad you like it! Back to keep your fingers crossed- Let's hope.

When Continental used Denver as one of their major hubs they provided service Montana. When Continental left Denver they dropped Montana. Frontier filled the gap for awhile then followed suit and dropped Montana. Frontier is again providing service to Montana. If they can survive in that market (or lack of market) they could certainly survive from the Belize market.

Tim, I fly Houston to DEN (Taca) and think very highly of the employees... catdog, I believe immising was refering to your source about the "buzz", not so much what routes CO is flying. It's true about the service to/from EWR/BZE but unfortunately, not that often. It would be nice if it were every Sat.

Barbara - maybe I've just been lucky or maybe it's because there is a steady stream of passengers out of LAX, but I've never had a problem. And last year they allowed 3 of us to take excess baggage without charge when they learned it was school supplies for San Pedro, so I have only good to say about them. On the other hand, and this is NOT an exaggeration, in my lifetime I have flown fewer than 5 domestic flights which resulted in my checked baggage arriving at the same time and place as I. Maybe I just have bad luck, but it's gotten so that I'd rather carry-on and do without some stuff than check a bag on a domestic flight.

My experience with Taca has been good so far... After hearing the horror stories, I'm careful to check my reservations in the two weeks before a trip, arrive extra early to the airport, and watch them tag my luggage.
The plus side of SFO - San Salvador - BZE or Roatan, and using my AA frequent flyer miles has made bit worth the little extra attention.
Taca did announce a few months ago they would no longer be an American code share partner after April 2007. frown

YOU SHOULD TALK!!!!! None of your comments have made any sense at all. My reply to you concerning, "something I know nothing about" was regarding the company newsletter you referenced. First of all, NO WHERE in the mini paragraph does it say ANYTHING about XJT not having a place to fly the planes - NO WHERE does it say this! Secondly, you say, they can't fly them out of IAH, CLE or EWR. AGAIN! Where does it say this?????????????????? I don't see it in the little tiny paragraph you referenced! So, seeing something that is not actually there is again, "something I know nothing about"!

Actually, now I'm intrigued. All non stop flights are direct but all direct flights aren't necessarily non-stop; so is it where the stops are that determines whether a flight is direct or not?
And if the train leaves the station travelling 30 miles an hour....

Nonstop means the plane leaves your city and does not land again until you get to the city where you want to go. Direct means that the flight leaves your city, lands, and takes off for your destination but you never have to get off the plane.
