Here's one I have read nothing about, bicycling in Belize. We are returning to Belize for our third trip in May of next year. My husband is planning a road trip on his bike while I am going to rent a van and be back up. I have been on the road to San Ignacio and know it is rideable. How about the rest of the country? Ideally, we would like to go through the mountains down to Plancencia and then back track back up through Orange Walk to Corozal before flying to SP for a few days of R&R. Are there any cycling clubs in Belize or racing teams that anyone knows how to contact that we might get route and mileage info? Any info is greatly welcomed!

Cycling is huge in Belize, lots of teams. Highways are our velodromes. Just had friends ride from PG-Dangriga, Dangriga to San Ignacio, San Ignacio to Belize City and Belize City to Corozal, a segment per day. Too grueling for leisure riding, but one of these segments should suffice. The most scenic would be the ride from Dangriga to Belmopan, which also has the largest hills.

Katie, this is the info I am looking for and from the sounds of it, just what we expected. Joe is not a leisure rider and I don't cycle at all. We will be traveling with about 2 to 3 other cyclist and I will be the support van. Plan on getting him off every morning and doing some sight seeing. We also plan on spending a few days in Placencia, and Corozal and maybe the Belmopan area. We are bringing our 12 year old grandaughter so this is an educational trip as well. Anyway I could get intouch with your friends? Are they state side?

Great cause, Joe does the same. My mother passed in April from breast cancer. I was looking for info on road conditions, route plans, what mileage one can expect to do in one day. If there are clubs with organized rides that he could participate in, he would love it. We live in New England so maybe even a club that might have a few riders that wanted to bike New England, we could recipocate and be host them here.
