Hi all, Linda, our daughter Lillian(2yrs) and I will be on the island around the end of Jan. beginning of Feb. What is the weather like? I hear The whole Caribean side of the Yucatan can be windy in Jan. Also, what are the immediate beach conditions like, rocky? sandy? seaweed? Various members of my wife's side of the family have stayed there and I have mixed reports on these sort of conditions. My uncle-in-law has graciously given us use of his condo(immediately north os San Pedro) and since we tend to visit Mexico in late Jan., so we are planning for this time frame.

dave, don't worry about it. Wind is good. Cools things off. All of the shore is great. Beautiful white sand. Some places have sea walls. It is a great place. Went my fisrt time this June and I am making plans to open a bussiness there. You and yours will love it.

thanks deacon, we are going, its just a matter of when, luckily we have some flexibility with vacation time, so....would prefer to go with less windy setting. we stayed in tulum in jan 04', very windy, choppy seas...i understand the barrier will stop the choppiness...

Don't know exactly where you are staying. But if you be at the condos where the CocoLoco's bar is they have a great pool for your little one. Seaweed like Florida gets is not a problem. Winds will not blow your daughter down.

"wind will not blow your daughter down" lol, lol. Great one! smile

Linda, I believe you are going at one of the best times. Hurricane season ends in Nov and the best season and busy season for that area is Dec-April. Rain and Winds are lower at that time.

The wind is not necessarily a bad thing. The skeeters don't land nearly as often when they are fighting the wind, so you can pretty much get through the visit bite free, even without bug repellant. We were there this past Feb, and I didn't get the first bite, only used spray twice in two weeks. It was rather nice not to be all gooey when we went out in the evenings. Not to worry. And, if the condo is just north of San Pedro, all of the condos in that area are very nice. We have one there, and enjoy it very much. Some better than others, but all very adequate. Have a great time. smile

That time of year is not usually windy from the front of the island. We do get north fronts that blow in that can bring rain and drop temps about 10 degrees. I believe the most windy time of the year is around March. Choppy seas is not really an issue inside the reef.
