Five Sisters Adds Riverside Villa & Nature Trail

The new Riverside Villa at Five Sisters Lodge is one of the most unique lodging experiences in all of Belize, and the distinctiveness of this riverside retreat begins with just getting to it.

Set on the banks of Privassion River, the Riverside Villa is accessed through a series of steps and a winding trail into the forested valley - the Five Sisters staff makes luggage transfer a breeze. At the end of the trail, the Villa remains hidden by the large pines, but the soothing sounds of the flowing river means you’re getting closer. After a short walk through the pines, the Villa appears. The first reaction of most guests: “oh my gosh!”

The Villa and its riverside setting are indeed impressive. The Villa actually consists of two log and thatch cabaŇas connected by an open air deck. On one side is a cabana with a bedroom and bathroom, accentuated by Mayan furnishings A screened porch has a hammock and overlooks a garden with the river just beyond. On the other side is the larger cabana with a fully equipped kitchen, dining area, writing desk and small library. It is surrounded on four sides with fully screened porches, hammocks and seating areas to enjoy entrancing views of the tropical gardens and the flowing river. Five Sisters’ Riverside Villa is a charming and romantic get away for adventuresome couples, honeymooners or any one seeking a quiet retreat.

Five Sisters Resort itself is unique, located in the scenic Mountain Pine Ridge Forest Reserve, the largest protected area in Belize. The resort gets its name from five breathtaking waterfalls surrounded by crystal pools. These waterfalls empty into the Privassion River, which meanders through the heart of the Forest Reserve. There’s nothing else like it in all of Belize, and this natural wonder is a popular spot for weddings.

The Five Sisters Lodge is perched high atop the valley, overlooking the Five Sisters Falls.

The resort generates its own hydro-electric power, including a hydro-powered tram to carry guests from the base of the falls up to the lodge at the top of the mountain. In addition to the Riverside Villa, Five Sisters features 14 cabanas, full dining facilities and in-house bar with an incredible wooden deck, as well as a stargazing deck. The lodge is about a one hour drive from San Ignacio on the Caracol road and about a 90-minute drive away from Caracol, Belize's largest Maya ruins.
