Eight of us are coming to AC in February. This is an annual trip for us before boarding the Nekton Pilot for a week of diving. We've enjoyed doing a lot of fun things, adventures, great restaurants, etc. and have a ball except for one day. The day we get back from the Nekton trip to Belize City it is between 7 and 8 am. Our flight back to the US doesn't take off until 4 pm. The Nekton has us set up to go to the Princess Hotel and Casino for the day. We did that last year and were bored to death. My question is what would be a fun and interesting way to spend 5 or 6 hours in BC? Any suggestions will be much appreciated.
Belize Zoo, Cave Tubing, Zip Line, Crooked Tree Wildlife Sanctuary or Baboon Sanctuary come to mind and can be done in a morning (not all, individually.)
Is the cave tubing the one at Jaguar Paw? If so, we've done it and really enjoyed it a lot. Do you know the name of a Zip Line company that is good? Who do you get to take you to these places? Just a regular taxi or is there a tour group you might recommend.
I want to avoid offending or debating, I am here to help with opinions(to answer when someone needs dental referrals, answers to importing dogs, moving here, etc) or ask questions when I need help, not to debate... so I think this is best.
There are wonderful historic sights in Belize city - Belize City Museum - located by central bank - a MUST St. John's Cathedral - built in the early 1800's with balast from logging ships. House of Culture - former Governor General's residence Baron Bliss Lighthouse Supreme Court - the architecture takes you back in time Maybe you can get a boat to take you on a ride up Haulover Creek and down the Burden Canal. "Old Belize" is another popular and intresting spot. Get a good local cab-driver-tour guide and you can have a very special day in Belize city. David Cunningham is one of many excellent local guides.
Kaz-z-k, Not to change the subject, but where does one go to find out about bringing their pet into Belize for one month or so? We have a Lab and would rather bring him with us on vacation, instead of boarding or friends, but do not want him to have to suffer quarantine. How does it work going from Texas(IAH) to Belize & on to SP? Any info is appreciated!!
sorry I just noticed your question 2 days late. Glad to help. I have a lab, too. Was a 5 min process after I went through customs.
Belize Agricultural Health Authority (BAHA). It was an easy process. Call the number below and they will tell you what you need to fax them for the permit (info about your dog...breed, age, sex, etc...)
Requirements: Domestic pets will be allowed to enter the country provided that owners present the following:
valid import permit international veterinary certificate (needed 7 days prior to departure) valid rabies vaccination certificate inspection by quarantine officer US $30 entry fee + US $12.50 fax fee
Import Permits To apply for an import permit,
request application form from:
Permit Unit Belize Agricultural Health Authority (BAHA) Belmopan Showgrounds Belmopan City Tel: 822-0197 or 822-0818 Fax: 822-3084 Email: baha@btl.net
return completed form to Permit Unit of BAHA (Note: date of arrival must be specified)
Approved permits will be faxed to applicant at a cost of US $12.50 to be paid at the point of entry on the day of arrival.
Persons who forego the application process will be subject to a US $100.00 violation fine in addition to the US $30 entry fee.
no quarentine importing here or back to the states.
I just do not know the requirments/documents to take your pet back as Karmin and I are still here.
You will have to check with the US the requirments for bringing your pet back. I assume you will need to see the vet here for an international certificate to go back. It's like your pet's passport.
It should be easy taking your dog Houston-Belize City, such an easy trip. I had to go Las Vegas-Houston-Belize.
I recommend taking the water ferry from BZE-SPR. Good luck. Hope our labs can play.
You need a health certificate from a vet in Belize to transport your dog back to the US. It's only valid for one week so you'll have to schedule accordingly. The vet is only on the island on Wednesday's and you can call the clinic at 226-3266 for an appointment.
Timing of your vacation is also an issue, there are embargoes enforced by the airlines and if you need to make sure that you don't come down while it's open and try to go up when it's closed.
