I will be landing in Belize the first part of May for a 10 day trip with my 2 adult children. We we're thinking of staying at Rubys the first night before going on to A/C. Has anyone stayed there? When we arrive at A/C we are wondering a good place on the beach to stay. We have always gone to Negril Jamacia and love the kicked back ways but now looking for a new part to explore. We love to snorkle. cool Any thoughts? Dala

I met an AA flight attendant who stayed one night at Ruby's with her husband and 4 year old. They checked out the next morning and went to Banana Beach and had a FABULOUS time. For not too much more money, it made ALL the difference in the world!!!! 2 fresh water swimming pools, on the beach, air cond.--on and on.-- Go to www.bananabeach.com. You will NOT be disappointed and neither will your adult children, trust me and believe me!!! Mr. Tim the owner will do everything to make your vacation SPECIAL!!! A full breakfast is included, also. His staff reflects him--THE BEST.

Snorkel at Hol Chan and Shark Ray Alley---You can book this trip with any lodging facility but Monkey Business is at Banana Beach and is the same price as other facilities. Don't go home without that snorkel experience. And NO!! I am NOT a paid sponsor. smile

Thanks alot for your replies. The main thing I will do is snorkel. In Negril we never seen a shark along the reefs. Is this something to worry about there??? That would really freak me out! Fly Boy. What is monkey business? Do you fly fish? I just got a new pole and want to do some fly fishing. Dala

We enjoyed Alfonso Graniel as a guide for Shark Ray Alley and Hol CHan. Monkey Business can schedule you with him very easily. Alfonso was kind, knowledgable and loads of fun!

Oh, the sharks you see at SRA are nurse sharks and will not harm people. They just cruise around and are amazingly beautiful creatures. No need to fear these : )

Hi cuzican,
I like Rubys and I stay there often. To me, Banana Beach isn't "not too much more", but that's subjective. If you book early, you can get the $50 rooms right on the beach before they sell out.

The Bottom Time dive operator is right next door and they do tours at the Marine Park regularly. The sharks you're likely to see are nurse sharks and they're pretty harmless. You'll enjoy yourself, I bet.

smile I agree with you Dan regarding Ruby's. It is not for everyone but IS a great budget hotel, ON the beach and in town. I have met so many interesting people (Drs,lawyers, not just backpackers) when staying there.

Bottom Time is highly recommended. A small locally owned dive shop that should be counted as one of the best. laugh
