I just found this site and I'm leaving on a cruise tomorrow. We only get to spend one day in Belize and we've booked a morning snorkeling excursion to Goffs Caye, which means we'll return to Belize City around 1pm and be free until 5pm or so when we board the ship again. I'd like to get some more snorkeling in if possible since Belize is so well known for its underwater life but I don't know if there's a shop in Belize City that offers something like this in such a short timeframe. Any suggestions? Thanks!

There isn't a lot of great snorkeling near the city. However you could catch a plane to either Ambergris Caye or Caye Caulker and do a scheduled tour.

Here in San Pedro (AC) snorkel tours head out around 2pm and take a couple of hours. You could catch the 5pm plane and be back in the city around 5:30pm

Or, alternately you have time to go to Cucumber Beach right outside the city and check out the "Old Belize" museum.

Belize City can be a lot of fun and very informative. A lot of very cool history - being built on rum bottles and conch shells.

St. Johns's Catherdral - Place of the anointing of the Mosquito Kings.

House of Culture (Government House) - Residence of the Goverer Generals of the past, also where British Royalty would stay during their visits.

The Museum of Belize (old prison) - take a step back in time in a old backwater Caribbean port town prison. Great history lesson and very informative.

Olde Belize (4 miles out) - worth it and if you have some extra time get a taxi to the Belize Zoo which is about 30 miles to the west, calles the "Best little zoo in the world".

I've always passed on BC but now I'm definitely going to visit your recommendations. TYVM As to Belize Zoo, it is the neatest zoo I've ever seen. Nothing like up close and personal with jaguars, tapirs, spider monkeys, crocodiles, macaws, etc.
