I saw a clothing catalogue that contained mostly t-shirts, almost all of them with a saying. A particular shirt I thought was amusing had the phrase, "Homophobes are Gay" on it.

I thought this was hilarious, because not only is it a true paradox, but also illustrates how words are pirated for special purposes.

In my experience, the word gay meant happy, jolly, and things of that nature. Homosexual wasn't even linked to "gay" at the time.

In the past 20 years, gay and homosexual mean the same thing. Where the connection lies, I do not know.

Nowadays, young people use the word gay to mean something is stupid, or dumb. Another lost connection.
