Housing on North Ambergris Caye
is needed for
San Pedro Police Officers
and
Belize Defense Soldiers
during Emily.

We are expecting two
San Pedro Police Officers
(probably the North Shore Patrol)
and two Belize Defense Force Soldiers
t o be stationed on this side of the river
beginning Sunday.

The NAC NW will provide food and basic necessities
in the form of the Hurricane Boxes

The officers will need a safe place to weather the storm
and will then conduct patrols from this center
until regular conditions and traffic resume.

Please 'Reply'
if you have space available for them.

Thank You!

San Pedro Police Officers and Belize Defense Force Officers will be stationed on the north side of the San Pedro River by 5 p.m. Saturday, 16 July.

They will be at Ed and Krystyna Walter's home in the Buena Vista area, between White Sands and El Pescador. Formerly Col. and Amanda Martin's home.

Officers Dwayne McCullough and Gerald Sutherland (600-1621) of the North Shore Patrol are expected to be among those stationed on this side.

The Hurricane Supply Boxes were hurriedly made ready for them this morning.

To increase their effectiveness they need:

- use of a gas golf cart(s) for patrol, pls call Officer Sutherland 600-1621 if available

- use of a SMART phone (better reception on the north side) pls call 600-1621

- use of large working flashlights

- if you have VHF or marine radio capability, pls Reply with your name and location so that the officers may check in with you for news if the electrical power supply is interrupted

- your cooperation and support throughout, with maybe an energy bar or so too

NEMO Headquarters is San Pedro Town Hall. 226-2198. Medical assistance will be available there during the storm. Before and after the storm please go to your normal clinic. It is likely that you will have to provide your own transport. The ferry will not be operating during the storm.

Jeff and Francis at Casa Azul, 226-4012, took Dr. Keith's First Responder Course last Sept.

If you have VHF, marine, ham, or other radio capability, please let me know so that I can notify other people in your designated area. Otherwise you might make reports to the Area Leaders for your area so that they can answer other's questions.

NEMO urges everyone to take Emily very seriously. They are requesting that those who can go to a more secure area somewhere on the mainland.

Armed San Pedro Police Officers and Belize Defense Force officers
are currently stationed north of the river in the Buena Vista area to assist residents during Hurricane Emily.

Please report any problems, incidents, suspicious actions to North Shore Patrol Officer Dwayne McCullough at 601-7733! This is a SMART phone and considered to have good reception on this side of the river.

Please be aware that the officers may not be able to get to your location for several hours depending on distance, weather and road conditions. There is no boat traffic at this time.

The officers are still in need of large flashlights.

News of the North - Monday

Rather quiet. Still minimal traffic. Guess that is the result of 9000 fewer people on the Island.

The San Pedro Police and Belize Defense Force officers stationed on this side of the river conducted numerous patrols throughout the weekend.

THANK YOU!! to Cholo's Golf Cart Rentals for the gas golf cart they volunteered for use by the officers north of the river.

THANK YOU!! also to Ed and Krystyna Walter for the use of their Buena Vista home to house the officers. To Sam Palen for the loan of the SMART (good reception on the North side) cell phone.

Nurse Natalie reports very few persons required medical attention. Dr. Dan, Tina and Natalie were in attendance when 8 1/2 lb. Emil arrived last night.

NEMO has put in a call for a new fogger to be stationed on the North Side of Boca del Rio. (!!!!!)

The two pre-Keith foggers (one from San Pedro and one from Caye Caulker) are at the Town Council Barracks. They are to melded and used south of the river.

Natalie expects that San Pedro Town Council will attempt to spray north of the river sometime this week (18 - 22 July). Hopefully sometime in August there will be a new fogger permanently on this side.

Size is unknown at this time, as is what will be needed to transport the unit. A covered area will be needed for storage.

Please let us know if you may have an area suitable for storing the fogger that will protect it from rain/wind/salt.

Emily proved to be a 'dry run' for the Island. Hurrah!! It is unsettling to have such an active hurricane season so early. NEMO expects that there will be more Watches, Warnings and storms closer to home as the season progresses.

Practice should only improve our hurricane preparation knowledge and activity.

Be glad we have Good Neighbors!!

News from The North - Monday Noon

San Pedro Police Officers:
Dwayne McCullough, P.C. #900 (601-7733)
E. Vernon, P.C. #1163

Belize Defense Force Officers:
Lt. Cpl. M. Sambula, #6564
Pvt. S. Locario, #7063

Reported a very quiet weekend north of the river.

All persons they encountered since their arrival on Saturday were welcoming,
cooperative and delighted that there were officers stationed and patrolling on this
side of the river.

A resident of Tres Cocos, pledged a two burner propane stove to be stored along
with the Hurricane Supply Boxes for use by officers assigned to The North.

In the event of another Storm Watch, Officers Sambula and Locario expect to be
assigned to this area. Being familiar with the territory will make them much more
effective.

The North Ambergris Caye Neighborhood Watch would like to extend sincere
Appreciation to these men for their time and efforts on our behalf these past few
days. 'Thank you!'
