SAN PEDRO WEATHER DISCUSSION by Winston Panton (with
excerpts from the Tropical Prediction Center)

TODAY’S WEATHER

Partly cloudy and hazy weather is developing over
Yucatan, the North West Caribbean and Belize.

Ambergris Caye, San Pedro and Caye Caulker will
experience for the next 24 hrs:

Hazy and hot weather and partly cloudy skies today and
tonight.

The high temperature will be around low 90 degrees F
after midday. Today’s winds will be light and variable
at first then become Northeast to East at less than 6
to 16 Kts.

The sea state will be slight. Seas will be 2 to 3
feet beyond the reef.

The outlook is for fair and hot weather through
Wednesday.

Current Weather:
San Pedro Lagoon 0700 hrs
Cloud
4/8 Stratus & Cumulus
Wind (direction & speed)
Northeast 6 Kts.
Tide level
0.50 m
Precipitation
None

Western & Central Caribbean:

AN UPPER TROUGH EXTENDS INTO THE NORTHWEST CARIBBEAN
WITH THE AXIS FROM THE CAROLINA COAST ACROSS THE
WESTERN BAHAMAS TO 19N83W.

SHOWERS AND TSTMS ARE POSSIBLE ACROSS THE NORTHWEST
AND CENTRAL CARIBBEAN THRU THURSDAY AS THE UPPER
TROUGH LINGERS IN THE AREA.

LIGHTER THAN NORMAL TRADES ARE EXPECTED THROUGH THE
SHORT TERM PERIOD...THEN WILL WEAKEN FURTHER FROM
THURSDAY THROUGH SATURDAY.

Central Caribbean:

MID-UPPER LEVEL RIDGING COVERS THE AREA EAST OF 70W
WITH THE MEAN AXIS ALONG 60W. THE UPPER TROUGH IS
FLATTENING THE RIDGE AS IT ENCOMPASSES THE AREA.
CONSIDERABLE MOISTURE IS LOCATED TO THE E OF THE
TROUGH AXIS WITH THE DEEPEST MOISTURE NEAR THE BAHAMAS
WHERE SURFACE FORCING AND UPPER LEVEL SUPPORT IS THE
STRONGEST.

AN UPPER LEVEL HIGH IS CENTERED OVER VENEZUELA.
SCATTERED MODERATE CONVECTION IS BEGINNING TO DIMINISH
OVER COLUMBIA...PANAMA AND THE SOUTHWEST CARIBBEAN
SEA. THIS UPPER LEVEL HIGH APPEARS TO BE FAIRLY
STATIONARY SO CONTINUED DIURNAL CONVECTION IS LIKELY
ACROSS THE SW CARIBBEAN AND S AMERICA FROM THE
DIFLUENT FLOW CAUSED BY THE UPPER TROUGH AND UPPER
HIGH.

OTHERWISE...TYPICAL PATCHES OF LOW CLOUDS AND SHOWERS
ARE SCATTERED ACROSS THE CARIBBEAN DRIVEN BY MODERATE
TRADES. STRONG SUBSIDENCE IS NOTED TO THE WEST OF THE
TROUGH AXIS.

UNSETTLED WEATHER WILL PUSH TO THE EAST TOMORROW OVER
HISPANIOLA AS THE UPPER LEVEL TROUGH MOVES EASTWARDS.

AN UPPER TROUGH REMAINS ESTABLISHED ACROSS THE W ATLC
AND NW CARIBBEAN. THE UPPER AXIS LIES FROM 32N71W
ACROSS CUBA TO 19N81W.

UPPER LEVEL DIFFLUENCE AND SURFACE FORCING IS
GENERATING A SHIELD OF OVERCAST SKIES...SCATTERED
SHOWERS AND POSSIBLE THUNDER STORMS FROM 19N-32N
BETWEEN 63W-73W. THE MOST ORGANIZED SHOWER ACTIVITY IS
LOCATED WITHIN 200 NM OF THE STATIONARY FRONT AND OVER
HISPANIOLA WHERE THE LOCAL TOPOGRAPHY IS CAUSING
ENHANCED LIFT.

A FEW SHOWERS OVER THE YUCATAN PENINSULA IS ASSOCIATED
WITH A WEAK 1012 MB LOW.

FAIR WEATHER WILL CONTINUE ACROSS FLORIDA...THE W
