I'm interested in attending St. Luke's Univ. My husband and I will move to Belize. Is is it difficult to find housing, jobs, etc. What about shipping our stuff. ANY advice would be great. Oh, and what are the crime rates like?

E&J...I found that if I did a search(next to register below add reply)I found a ton of posts that helped me make choices. Hit search and enter "Jobs" and it will bring up all the posts about jobs. Make sure to look in several sections as some posts may be in other areas. ie: General Chat or Liveing in Belize.
Good luck...AC is a blessing to me...hope you find it the same.

If you cannot afford to sustain yourself in a foreign country (especially a developing country), its probably unwise to plan on attending school there. There are no "jobs" for non Belizeans in Belize, the country cannot even afford to employ most of the young people who graduate college or even high school. Belize has a terrible "brain drain"of educated young people who leave for lack of decent employment.
If Belizean citizens cannot find employment, foreigners should not expect to do so.
There are exceptions of course, if you bring capital to invest (or you have a close relative who owns a business down there and can "pull strings" on your behalf), or if you possess very unusual job skills that no Belizean can fill (and it would have to be very unusual indeed to fall into that category) but otherwise, you should not count on finding a "job."
You should also be aware that the cost of living is quite high on Ambergris Caye, higher than in many areas of the US.
You would be better off finding a medical school in the U.S., unless you have sufficient savings to sustain yourself, a family who can sustain you, or a very hefty student loan or grant.

I would think that St. Lukes' should be able to help you and answer all your questions as well as help arrange housing and help you with handling shipping your stuff. I know that MUA (Medical University of the Americas) does. As for jobs that may be a different story. Remember you will probably have to deal with work permits etc. Good luck.

Susan is giving you the straight stuff on this topic. The cost of living in SP, in the same manner as you may currently be accustomed, is comparable with the cost of living here in Austin, Texas. Both places have very expensive utilities, real estate, etc. If you want to live very inexpensively, you could, but it would probably involve a huge change in EVERYTHING about the way you live, and you most likely not be able to find employment. Either way, please go for a visit, you will surely be happy you did.

Hi Erik & Jennifer:

I'm looking for a Sales Associate to manage my boutique in San Pedro. I currently have an *AD* at the Belize Forum site and have been getting quite a bit of response. Please send me your resume as an attachment to: [email protected] as I also have a 23-acre property near (Altun Ha Maya Ruin) that we're planning on developing also.

To the boutique owner: Just out of curiosity, have you advertised in the San Pedro Sun? I can't help but wonder why you are soliciting resumes from non-Belizeans living in the USA?
Its hard for me to believe that, given the high unemployment in Belize and the many hard working, ambitious, smart young Belizeans who live in San Pedro, you cannot find a Belizean with the qualifications to perform this work. How hard are you looking?

Hi Susagg:

Thank you for supporting us grass-roots (BORN, BRED, NATIVE(BELIZEANS) we really do appreciate it...however! Let's not make this political.

FYI...as far as the boutique is concerned, there are 3 positions available. We're looking for a "Manager" and 2 assistants.

Beverly's Closet is an "EQUAL OPPORTUNITY EMPLOYER."
