#209626 - 06/15/03 07:34 PM "gardening" question
rickcheri Offline
I know that the lizards really cause chaos in this situation. I am a manager of a salon and people are calling me wanting cut off hair for here in the states. They say it repells the critters from eating gardens/plants here??!! Does anyone know/believe this would work there??? It also "acts" as a fertilizer here as well as keeping lizards, rabbits etc... from eating the plants..... C

hahahahahh Ok, she said she has access to hair...hair from hair cuts...she operates a beauty salon...she said some people are asking her for this hair...they have heard that putting hair in their garden can repell certain critters. I have heard that if the hair is put down down a mole hole lol...the mole will go away...preferable over to your neighbor.... wink too funny....three sheets? four??/hahhahahahha

We have been told to use it for keeping the deer out of the tulips, here.

Also the rabbits in the vegetable gardens.

I don't know about lizards. Our area keeps them in homes, not an outdoor pet. My son has a 5 foot iguana. Of course he used to have snakes too. ( guess who didn't like to go to son's?) smile

But, the hair is known to be used for keeping some critters away. I asked a cosmotologist once if she would give away hair, she wouldn't.

I know that here in Missouri, cut hair works well to keep deer out of the garden. The human smell repels them, until rain washes the scent away, then you must replace with new hair.Doesn't work on raccoons, though.

Hair is used for lots of things!! We currently "donate" boxes of cut off hair to a place called "Excess Access" and they make "Hair mats" out of it and use them to soak up oil spills in our worlds oceans.....check out their website at "excessaccess.com", their main objective is to recycle anything and everything to keep it from going in our landfills!! Also, if you have your hair cut 10" (inches) or more, donate it to "Locks For Love"...they make wigs for children suffering from cancer (hair loss), but it must be virgin hair!!! DOG-it is NOT to smoke!!! (wink) C

My local barber would give me his sweepings any time I asked. My canary's liked it for nesting material.
AND JIM - Yes, I think the question does belong on this board since it is about gardening in Belize.

Irish spring soap keeps the deer away too. Nobody likes the smell of that stuff. Lasts longer after rain.

Dammit!! And I was just starting to like Peter!,,,You'll be buying fresh vegetables and fruit from me soon.....you'd be AMAZED at what hair can be used for...Iguanas would be thwarted from human hair...and eating your plants...etc...one less battle in "paradise" :p .....grow a garden, be happy, mend old fences, eat fresh vegetables... be kind, and DONATE YOUR HAIR..if ever an oil spill, it will help!! Peter-a Belikin Friday night??? C
