Hi Mac!
Why don't you start with using the "search" function on this board. Type in jobs maybe to start with...
Lots and lots of info on the search!
Also under lodging you will find some rentals, although you will be able to find many other places to rent and prob cheaper while there.
OH... buy Lans books too!
Have fun and good luck!

A Belizean work permit and a US Green Card are very different.
A Work Permit in Belize is good for one year only, and it is very specific about the kind of work one is permitted to do under that permit.
A "Green Card" in the US allows one long-term permission to reside and work in the US, as well as obligating one to military service, etc. In Belize, Permanent Residency is parallel to Green Card Status in the US.

Diane, I am sure rick n cheri no what a green card is, they were using that as an example for mac, so maybe he would understand a little better how not-so-easy getting a job in SP will be. Mac, heed rick n cheri's advice and take a few trips own there first. You will need money, the most important part.

Yes, using a greencard as comparison is not good, especially since one of the three things you are not allowed to do as a greencard holder is joining the armed forces(sic), the other two are: sit on a jury or vote! Except for that, you have all the rights of an American citizen. Works for me. I am born in Europe, still carry that passport, greencardholder in the States and hopefully soon proud carrier of a work permit in Belize.
There are numerous sources for info about moving and living in Belize and you will read over and over again, stay for a while before you decide, which, if you want to work, you have to do for 6 months one way or another, you can leave for 2 weeks, that's it, or you have to start your 6 months over again.
Jobs are not easy to get and especially San Pedro is expensive.
Start with Lan's book Adapterkit Belize. Some info is dated but it will give you a lot of basic info. Check out the Belizeforum on the net as well. Less chatty than this forum. And yes, bring money! Many come to Belize with great hopes of living in paradise, just to find out they somehow ended up broke in hell, being "Just another gringo in Belize"! Lyrics to be found on Dennis Wolfe's webpage....Good luck!

Sorry, BIG mistake, I think, Dennis does not have his own webpage but lyrics can be found on Belizenorth.com, a good site about all kinds of Belize matters, not just the North. Worth a visit. And buy his CD when you get down to AC and hear him in person.

my understanding, as a gringo, is that it is very difficult to get a job down there. native belizeans are supposed to get job priority, and some jobs, like dive masters & tour leaders, you MUST be belizean. to get residency is one year living there, and even then, the best jobs usually go to belizeans. and the pay is not what we call great. (ex, the night security at the hotel made $175 bz a week, had to boat over from corozol for a month at a time to make THAT much)

and PS - if you get sick or hurt, FLY HOME!!!! the hospitals are not like ours.

dont take this as gospel, it just what i've heard.
