Going to make the move! I don't know anyone down there ,although a friend is buying some property within the year, and I would like to know about any rentals, jobs (I'm a computer geek of sorts) and where it may be a nice place to start out.

Any and all info is welcome

Hey Steve,

You posted later than I did, but your results are similar so far.

I don't think its deliberate, I just think the locals tend to focus on folks who have already visited Belize. I've been going through the archived posts and there's a lot of info there that may answer your questions.

I'm sure that, because Temptation Island was filmed down there, they got a lot of one-shot wonder posts. Cruise the existing posts and check for your answers. You can also get a lot of info at escapeartist.com and the BelizeFirst newsletter online.

Good luck! Hope to run into y'all when I manage to make my way over to Belize.

Hey Glenn! Yeah that's pretty much the conclusion that I came to after posting. I have been searching through the archives here and have found some useful information (albiet most are about 2 years old).

I have been looking at other sites as well as escapeartist.com. I've been searching through the local papers (San Pedro Breeze and others) and have been gleaning info from them.

What's funny is that I never knew that Temptation Island was filmed down there! I'm going because I have a friend that's buying property down there and am not liking the current US political climate.

I'll just keep in lurk mode for awhile and pop up when I have more direct questions like, "Can I work and make money down there with just a vacation pass?"

I wish you well on your journey!!

Hard for me to believe nobody has responded yet!
You're doin the right thing using the search functions for this board, there are probably answers to all questions for you there.
I believe you are going to have a rather large problem finding work income down there as there are strict laws providing for Belizians employment.
I have observed in some cases where people working in bars seem to be expats, but they may be owners/employers.
Best if you can plan on liveing :p on what you can get from the US or take with you though.

Hey Richard! That's pretty much what I've gathered. Being a multimedia developer (CD-ROMS, Websites) I can pretty much work from anywhere just need a fast connection and my machine and I can do offsite work from the US or wherever.

I've also heard that they are looking for people with a technical background down there so there may be some opportunities I won't be able to tap into when I go down there in Feb.

Will just have to see when I get there... And in the middle of having as much fun as humanly possible. wink

Steveo, glenns comments are right on, if you don't have an income before you come down then you will be hard pressed to survive. You can't work while you are on vacation, many residents are very "hand to mouth" as it is. It's a beautiful place to visit & many have thought it would be a great place to live & I'm sure it is, but it's hard to make it unless you have an outside income or you have an established business. I know many who barely eek out a living. Just enough to keep a roof over their heads & often not enough to eat. frown
